Anyone have a lead on these, understand that there may be better ones out there than the originals? For 1966 M20E

Thanks,

Matt

Sky-Tek makes one that is FAA/PMA for Mooneys so you can legally install it in your airplane (you didn’t mention which model you own, so I’m assuming).

Aircraft Spruce sells them for $92.  The OEM part is over $400.

+1 for the Lamar units available at Aircraft Spruce.

Some of the OEM part numbers are now unobtainable anywhere.

Some A&P's have been known to install tractor solenoids from the local auto parts store.  Don't let them do that.

The Lamar units are very high quality and cheap enough to keep spares on the shelf in the hangar or even on the hat rack in the plane.

The Sky-Tek is PMA’ed for your M20E, so you’re good on that.

If you want, you can add your model to your profile and it’ll show up under your avatar.  Good luck!

In some cases it's the same part.    The FAA has made clear that if it's the same part, it's okay to install.   You do need to verify that it's the same, but there are many cases where it is.

We replaced one in our 67E a couple years ago with the LAMAR, easy enough to get from Spruce and its worked good so far.

Also replaced the same relay in a different plane and it failed after one year. Seems kind of ridiculous that you pay $180 for a "certified" relay that lasts one year while I can put one in my truck from Amazon for $20. Alas... paperwork.
