Clrd4appch Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 My DG is dying in my old E and really would like to replace with one with a heading bug. We tried one, the Edo Aire 4000c, but it was about a half inch too long. Anybody have any suggestions? Thank you! Quote

It’s mounted in the upper right pilots side panel. I believe it’s a 4000D-1 or G502A. Quote
Clrd4appch Posted February 21 Author Report Posted February 21 Good point. My 65 has been converted to a standard 6 pack. Quote

Clrd4appch Posted February 21 Author Report Posted February 21 Yes. The mechanic says the longer one interfered with the yoke. I wasn't there so I can't say exactly how. He says I need one about half an inch shorter, or about 5.75 inches max. Quote

I think there is one as an option but it’s not required… but I don’t know for certain. It’s advertised as a dg though, not a compass or hsi, so you’ll have to set it. There’s another thread where a guy was talking about installing without the magnometer option. 1 Quote

I visited the Uavionix booth at the Buckeye Air Fair. The magnetometer is small, plastic, about two inches by a half inch. I would probably install it with the DG configuration. I was most curious about requirements for periodic battery testing and replacement. Sounds like it’s something the owner is allowed to do; test once a year. I got a slightly different answer from Aspen. 1 Quote

Pinecone Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 A LOT of threads out there about issues using an AV30 without the magnetometer. I understand later ones have one built in, but the reports I have seen say it needs the external one. Remember, if you move up and have a magnetometer, no more checking and adjusting the heading on the DG. And the HSI display is the greatest thing for situational awareness other than the moving map. Utah20Gflyer Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 Or a GI 275! The functionality of an HSI is much better than a DG. If you have to spend money then it might make sense to bring the plane up to modern standards. Yes you spend more but you also increase the functionality and value of your plane as well. From my understanding if you go the AV30 you want the magnetometer. Lots of reports of precession issues without it. Quote
Echo Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 I have a 4000D-1 and it works. How long is your unit? (Still talking DG lol) Quote
