Hey there...new to this space...shopping for a mooney...not sure if this is the right topic area to post

looking at an eagle to purchase
it had the 310 hp upgrade STC SA02193CH with the Hartzell prop.
however, later, they replaced the Hartzell prop with an MT prop, MTV-14-D, 4-blade composite

Is this an issue?  is it valid?  Is there any risk associated with this?

almost ready to purchase it, but don't want to incur risk of being required to buy a new prop

Take a look at the 310hp STC, the MT 4 blade is allowed in the STC.

The one thing you may inquire about is,  was there a prop strike? People usually don't replace the Top Prop.

yes, there was a prop strike
the STC specifies the Hartzell ... doesn't indicate an MT
however, the MT prop STC indicates it is a valid replacement for the Hartzell
so....does that mean it's okay?

Yes, that MT is certified for the installation and many of us would consider it a nice upgrade over the heavy Hartzell. Especially after Hartzell just jacked their prices way up.

I'm flying a 3 blade MT on my J and would choose it again.

thank you for that feedback

and did some more investigation

the mooney 310 stc SA02193CH only specifies the hartzell

but there is a separate doc, an STC letter of authorization, that allows the MT prop as a replacement

The only thing that would concern me with this prop is the thin metal strip. Most new MT props have the nickel leading edge compared to the older stainless steel edge. I’d make sure this one has the nickel leading edge. The stainless steel MT props seemed to have more issues with paint.

soooo...

I'm still getting feedback that the mtg-14-d 4 blade prop is not valid for the m20s 310hp/2700 rpm upgrade

that m20s 310hp upgrade is STC SA02193CH; coupled with STC SE02930AT, an engine STC for Av Power Model 1O-550-G-AP conversion same as io-550-n

there have been several threads and responses that the MT prop is valid for the 310hp STC

Does anyone have the STC info that specifically allows the MT prop for the M20S 310 upgrade STC

specific information would be helpful to resolve this

Here's what McFarlane/Flight-Resource (STC holder for MT prop for Mooney) says (I have highlighted):mooney-m20r-s-tn-datasheet.jpg.e5f07bb9a99a7fdd4a729447594bd7cd.jpg

They are a Distributor for MT props. I don’t see anywhere that they are the STC holder.

I didn’t make that very clear. I was referring to McFarlane, who I think bought Flight Resource. Here’s a link to the STC.
