0TreeLemur Posted October 13, 2023 Report Posted October 13, 2023 According to NOAA's Aviation Weather Center, their new web site goes live Monday. Here's a beta version that I found referenced on the National Centers for Environmental Prediction www page: https://beta.aviationweather.gov/ Tonite I used it to help plan a flight from Alabama to New Mexico tomorrow. Big improvement over the old pages! Check it out. 1 3 Quote

MikeOH Posted October 14, 2023 Report Posted October 14, 2023 Contrarian here! I just spent the last 30 minutes 'checking out' the 'new' site. Sorry, I found it cumbersome and annoying. Totally screwed up the CIP/FIP icing pages. A lot of it looks like they just put a new human interface in front of the same old displays that is more convoluted to use. Oh, well, I better get used to it since come Monday I'll have no choice 2 Quote

MountainGoat Posted October 17, 2023 Report Posted October 17, 2023 I do miss the old, simple METAR/TAF page...Could go straight there from google. Now I just get not found. 1 Quote

I forgot the new site went live Monday and was on the site today and actually sent them a BUG Report. The IFR Basemap didn't come up and then I checked the VFR and the same thing. Now I'm guessing it may have had to do with moving things to the new site and a link was broken. Edited October 18, 2023 by PeteMc 1 Quote

From the Home page, select TOOLS from the drop-down, then select DECISION SUPPORT IMAGERY...that will open a page where you can select ICING (right side)...which will open another page that you can select SLD from the far right side of the page. I make NO claims that this is the best way to do this...only what I figured out after screwing around with it. 1 Quote

That's how we figure out how to use any new UI or UX (forgive me -- I don't know the current terminology). Quote

Sure, but the reasonable expectation is that there will be some tangible benefit. I just am not seeing that here. To continue to use the CIP/FIP pages as an example: Previously you could go directly to the CIP/FIP pages from the forecast tab on the home page. Once there you could select the product and dynamically use sliders to change altitudes and forecast times. Now the selection is nested four levels down and you have to ‘back up’ a level in order to change altitude or time! The ‘new’ UI is both more cumbersome and LESS beneficial. And, the fundamental chart you end up with is the exact same one as before. I have no complaints with that, but working harder to get it is lame! Now, back to chasing the kids off the lawn… 1 1 Quote

Are you talking about the User Interface (UI) where you click on buttons, move around the screen, setup preferences, etc., etc. OR... Are you talking about your OVERALL User Experience (UX) with the Website? Basically how did you like or dislike using the Website? 1 Quote

PeteMc Posted October 20, 2023 Report Posted October 20, 2023 So I went back again today.... Still can't pull up the Low Enroute or the VFR Basemap. Anyone connected to them to find out when the site will not *really* be a Beta site? (Used two computers and two different browsers on my Desktop, do don't think it's me.) Quote

Found the decoded version with the link above. Cool. The Govies must have hired a new contractor to run the site thus the overhaul. Quote
GeeBee Posted October 22, 2023 Report Posted October 22, 2023 It is not an "upgrade". It serves controllers and FSS specialists just fine, but not pilots. 1 Quote
