The next owner will expect it. Since the interior is already apart, in much less time than it takes to read through this post, you could take out the old one and put in a new one and be done. If one pound of useful is that important, a simple colon cleanse will do the trick . . .lol Lance, I will use this as an example. The poster came here and gave good reasons to remove old wire etc., that adds up to real useful load savings. You disagree and ultimately say above? I had blocked you, but unblocked you today. People say I am mean, but I only give back what I get. I would NOT care for this response to my honest question of do I Have to keep the speaker? I say take it out if you want to...the speaker, not the feaces. Drinking that crap as awful for a colonoscopy. Glad to get the "see you in ten"... Scott Quote

Others gave him their opinion and told him what he wanted to hear - that he could take the speaker out. But sometimes "Can I?" isn't as important as "Should I?". He has already mentioned in other posts that he plans on selling the airplane in 2-3 years. The next person may find out on a pre-buy that the speaker is not there and want it. I had to fly an airplane home that I bought once without a headset and needed the speaker and was glad that I had it. I got my private license back when hardly anyone used headsets. Since we come on here looking for opinions, my opinion is that one pound of useful load for 2-3 years is not worth having to take the headliner and the glare shield out and and maybe a side panel and a seat and re-wire and re-install the speaker if the next person insists that they want a speaker. What he does with that information is completely up to him. 1 Quote
McMooney Posted August 30, 2023 Report Posted August 30, 2023 even with the nice zulu headsets and super pma 8000g audio panel, I tend to use the cabin speaker almost every flight. mostly just picking up clearance and atis, more convenient then bothering with the headset 3 Quote
DCarlton Posted August 30, 2023 Report Posted August 30, 2023 For the statistics, I replaced mine. Use it almost every flight before I start the engine. Never in a rush to put on the headset. 1 Quote
Echo Posted August 30, 2023 Report Posted August 30, 2023 He just asked if he can. Not if he should. I use mine for ATIS every flight. I value so would not personally remove. 1 Quote
wombat Posted August 30, 2023 Report Posted August 30, 2023 I don't think I've used an overhead speaker in my last 10 years of flying even when I wanted to get ATIS or something before starting the engine (Why? Don't you want your engine to warm up before you take off?) I just listened over the headset. You can hear it without putting it on if the engine is off. As long as what he wants to do is legal, then he's good to go. @LANCECASPER Personally, I'd never live in Texas and advise anyone considering it to reconsider. But if someone in Texas asks if the Arctic Cool system works, I'll give them advice on the Arctic Cool system instead of telling them to move away from that place. And regarding re-installing the speaker as a down-side to selling the aircraft? WTF? No. I'd prefer one that had the speaker already removed so I don't have to tear the plane apart just to take it out. So any plane that has not removed the speaker now has a $1,500 penalty on price because the former owner obviously doesn't care about efficiency. 1 Quote
