See if there is a method for telling the device to forget everything and start over… a total reset. Best regards, -a- Quote
tls pilot Posted November 8, 2022 Author Report Posted November 8, 2022 no one seems to know a reset method Quote
JimB Posted November 8, 2022 Report Posted November 8, 2022 This isn't specifcally for the 496 but did you try it? https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=Z41VbtQ1EH7F4wmdm0hfE6 Performing a Reset Ensure the device is powered off Press and hold both Page and Enter simultaneously Power on the device while continuing to press both buttons Release the Power button when Garmin appears on the screen Release the other buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? or This will remove all saved user data message appears Arrow to Erase or Yes Press Enter The device is now reset. You will want to take the device outside in a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to refresh satellite data. Quote
tls pilot Posted November 8, 2022 Author Report Posted November 8, 2022 Thank you We have tried this, no luck… Quote
Greg Ellis Posted November 9, 2022 Report Posted November 9, 2022 There was a topic on another forum about resetting the 496. This was an option to try to fix the issue 1. Plug the GPS into a wall outlet with the unit on and allow it to charge for eight hours 2. Perform a satellite reset: Start with the GPS off, a good antenna, and a clear view of the sky. Press and hold the ‘Out’ button then turn the GPS on using the ‘Power’ button. Continue to hold the ‘Out’ button until the “I Agree” message appears on the GPS. Release the ‘Out’ button and allow the GPS to acquire satellites for at least 15 minutes. Someone else mentioned this: 1. Turn on the unit. 2. Accept the conditions. 3. When it starts "Acquiring Satellites", press "MENU". 4. Scroll down to "New Location", press "ENTER". 5. Press "AUTO". I don't own a 496 so I have no idea if this would help your situation or not. tls pilot Posted November 10, 2022 Author Report Posted November 10, 2022 Thank you Greg They already tried that combo Next try involves updating software but most new computers have a usb 3.0 which according to Garmin “overloads” the 496 Thus they suggest using a USB 2.0 ( my computer knowledge is limited BUT seems any USB the 3.0 reverts to a lower speed if that is what the device needs.)
