jamesm Posted October 30, 2022 Report Posted October 30, 2022 I recently purchased a LHS-200C (landing height system) and I am doing exploration the best way to route the wires. I need to run 5 shielded wires up to the panel. Not wanting to tear open underbelly multiple times, I was seeking advice/suggestions for a '67 M20C. Known: installation instruction says it has to be mounted to an inspection plate. From what pictures on the web that I have seen shows that they mount the LHS senors on the wing inboard on an inspection plate just forward of the flaps. I didn't want mount it belly inspection plate/panel on the belly since belly can get coating of oil from the oil breather. It's seems to a proven location inspection panel on the wing forward of the flap (#16 picture below). Why reinvent the wheel. I know that the forward the flap wing inspection panel is the fuel tank of were I want to go so that isn't an option. So if I go inboard of the wing inspection panel through lighting hole takes me to just behind the rear spar. Since my crappy memory isn't so keen in this area of the airplane, it comes back to me only during annuals . What I am asking: I don't know how to make the transition just aft of the rear wing spar forward to the instrument panel. A long time ago when the plane had a Narco 141 (?) ADF installed. There was probably about 30ft long coil of antenna wire going to the Loop Antenna (I think it was the Loop) the that installer had left a coil antenna wire in back seat with duck tape coming up through the inspection panel at rear seat and along the side panel then forward to ADF in the Panel. At least I think that how the antenna cable was ran. I know for certain that was 30ft long coil of antenna wire under back seat a through rear seat inspection panel which always annoyed me. I was thinking of going outboard along the trailing edge of the wing then probably pasting the fuel tank by a bay or 2 then forward to leading edge then inboard to the panel. But I wasn't sure if there was clean shot from the trailing edge of the wing to the leading edge. I know sometimes it can be real fun routing wire along the trailing / edge I use an 1/8 aluminum tubing seems to work pretty good. Please advise, Thanks in advance, James '67C Quote

Raymond J1 Posted October 31, 2022 Report Posted October 31, 2022 Perhaps the "ideal" position would be that of the Marker beacon antenna, located at the base under the rear seat. The ADF sloop was further aft, to the right of the tail cone in line with the flaps. The routing of the marker beacon cables was: Under the rear seat, to the left, along the left wing root (following the structural tube), then up to the pilot dashboard. The path of the ADF sloop antenna cable was to the right, along the structural tubes, passing under the door sill. Quote
65MooneyPilot Posted November 1, 2022 Report Posted November 1, 2022 I just bought an LHS system also and I am going to attempt to install it in the left wing forward inspection plate just outboard of the gear door. The wires can go in the same hole as the pitot tube, Nav lights, pitot heat and above the aileron control rod. Getting the wires secured will be the challenge. I am out of town this week but will be attempting the install in about a week. 1 Quote
