I have done it. Agreed, I was doing it for two dimensional position not three, the Hars we had required a position for it to align, the more accurate the better, we used to pull it off of a map which of course really isn’t all that accurate, but in the desert you really don’t know your precise position, I have no idea how artillery did it back before GPS, because to hit a target they had to know precisely where they are. How did they determine that? The Apollo Precedus both could use MGRS ( military grid reference system) and had that survey feature, most all GPS’s don’t or can’t use MGRS. People smarter than me can convert I think However the drones work, their accuracy is very impressive to me.
