Lycoming paint

Learned a couple of things during the factory tour. First, the reason the gray paint is so easily scratched off is that Lycoming doesn’t use primer. Second, the gray paint will begin to turn pink at 500 deg. F.

Makes sense. Grey is just a dark pink.

Ask if they use that cheap thin paint for cooling, I’ve wondered why they don’t use decent paint.
