Thank you for sharing this.  It definitely helps others.  For example, the wind reporting at my airport has been missing lately.  As I was arriving from a trip last evening, I checked several local airports on foreflight and winds were generally NW.  So I maneuvered for the NW aligned runway.  On downwind, with your experience in mind, I checked the windsock and it was pointed at me.  I double checked a second windsock and it showed the same.  So I turned around and set up to land on the SE runway.  Sure enough, on final, the windsock confirmed I had made the right call to switch.  The winds weren't strong, so it likely wouldn't have been a big deal to land NW.  But I thought of your incident and decided to reverse course.  So again, thank you for sharing!

I've never had ATC clear me to land with a tail wind like that.  So, I'll definitely be paying more attention to saving my own behind.

I landed downwind on Runway 18 in January at KLIT in Little Rock. The tower cleared me straight in on 18 with a 5-7 knot tailwind from 020.

It was convenient since I was coming from the North but they called the wind when they gave the landing clearance, so I was informed.

Has anyone reviewed the landing performance charts for the M20M?

It should have a multi variate graph that will give a hint to how much tailwind can be included in the landing distance calculation…

Then compare to the tailwind Dick had….

Try to determine if there is some nose wheel / steering issue to be sorted out…

Or if the tailwind was so strong, it was off the chart….?

PP thoughts only, not a CFI…

Best regards,
