RobertGary1 Posted August 29, 2022 Report Posted August 29, 2022 Been using white lithium grease but seem to still have some wiggle. Should I use something thicker? People say speedo cable grease but never found that. Cable ends don’t look rounded. Quote
PT20J Posted August 29, 2022 Report Posted August 29, 2022 I believe speedometer cable lube is graphite in light oil. It should be available at auto parts stores. I might try removing the cable core, cleaning it in solvent and then lubricating it with speedometer cable lube. Might also be the gauge is just wearing out. I would also get an optical tach and check the accuracy of the gauge. Quote

carusoam Posted August 30, 2022 Report Posted August 30, 2022 My M20C got the cable replaced after a few decades… It was sooo… worn out it had a speed oscillation appear in the tach itself… until it popped the needle off its post. Sent the tach in for service… they put the needle back on and sent the gauge back…. (no charge) Replaced the cable… If you go this route… know that the cable length is defined by Mooney… Aircraft Spruce may have one too long or too short by a few inches…. PP thoughts only… Best regards, -a- Quote
