Patterman Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 My fuel booster pump is leaking from the tell tale drain. This is indicative of a pump shaft seal leaking by. Does anyone know who rebuilds these pumps? San Diego or nearby is a plus! Thanks. Have a great day, Scott
jetdriven Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Our dukes pump came from quality aircraft accessories. C&j and dukes both overhaul them. They are expensive around 800$. I think Peter on here got his repaired for a fraction of that. Search.
ELT Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Had the same problem last year. Contacted and sent pump to D&G Supply. IRANed the pump in about 1 week. Cost to IRAN was a few $100. Give Russ a call at D&G. Eddie
jetdriven Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I am definastely in favor of an IRAN if it had only been a few years since the last one. Ours was going on 19 years.
Patterman Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 Good morning Byron, and thank you. I tried to do a search on the site but it never works, I must be doing something wrong. I bought the plane in 07, and I imagine the pump is atleast 19 years old, I don't remember seeing anything in the logs. I am trying to get my head around the term "IRAN" Thanks,
jetdriven Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 IRAN is a term for "Inspect, repair as necessary". It sna open it up and replace the worn parts type deal. It's enough to get the part back to a serviceable "8130 or yellow tag) condition. It is not a full overhaul. In many cases there is little difference but the cost diffirential can be huge. 19 years on a pump is a while, and it has a plastic impeller. Perhaps a full overhaul would be good for yours. Anyways, Give D&J, and C&J a call, and also check QAI for their price as well.
Patterman Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 Your help is much appreciated!
Shadrach Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 +1 more for D&G. Russel will explain exactly what it needs and why. I would NEVER send anything to dukes based on their track record. I know a Comanche owner that returned a leaking pump to them that they had OH'd 13 months earlier. They charged him ~$1100 for a nother OH. No consideration whatsoever. That's a company that does not need my business...
jetdriven Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Our newly overhauled Dukes pump failed (siezed bearing) after about a total of 5 minutes of run time (3 takeoffs and landings). QAI sent it back to Dukes, where they sat on it for 60 days. Meanwhile we were out the 800$ for another pump and 1100$ for a core charge. Finally a call to the Dukes represenative got them to issue the refund for the pump. We ended up putting the pump we originally sent in as a core, whch was overhauled by C&J.
MooneyMitch Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Another repair/overhaul option for your pump is Georges Electrical Service, located in Sacramento, CA. We used this shop about 4 years ago on our boost pump and the work was done quickly at a very reasonable price. You might just give them a call for comparison. 1336 Santa Ana Avenue Sacramento, CA 95838-1708 (916) 927-3386
