I don’t think you can buy a new one by itself. By the time you gather the parts, get approvals and spend money for installation, you’re better off getting it as part of an auto pilot system, like the GFC500.  I don’t think you’ll find it very useful in any event. I have it as part of my a/p and use it for maybe five seconds during any given flight. The manual wheel is easy, intuitive and allows for precise adjustments.

I have electric trim as part of an inop autopilot, although the trim still works.   In the future I'd like to replace the autopilot, potentially with the TT/Aerocruze, which doesn't have electric trim for the Mooney.   So I may try to keep the electric trim by itself if I can find something that shows that there was a trim-only option on a J model with that system.   It's electrically pretty straightforward regarding the rewiring, but a basis for the installation, either an original configuration or an STC or something is needed or else potentially a DER ($$).

But +1 that it's not that big of a deal.   I rarely use mine as it's kind of fast and not good for small adjustments.   The manual trim is fine by itself, the electric is mostly a convenience if you don't have an autopilot that is using it automatically.

I'm pretty sure Century sold a stand alone electric trim. I would call and ask them . I have electric trim with a CIIB autopilot. There is no real connection except the disconnect relay disconnect both the trim servo and roll servo.

Yes, the Century Service Manual that I have shows several configurations of standalone trim systems.   It does make sense that anything shipped with a CII would have that.   Don't know how I'd sort out which configuration was used in a J model, but will figure that out when I get there, assuming I ever do.  ;)

If there’s any chance you’ll ever end up with a gfc500 autopilot, it’s probably best to wait until you do that as trim can be part of that setup and any different (Century) trim installed will likely need removed when installing the gfc500.
