Our bird is a couple years away from a new paint job.  That said, there are some places that tiny bits of paint have chipped away near the vent door and on the horiz stab.  Being in Houston, we're a magnet for corrosion.  Any suggestions on how to touch these spots up in a simple way so we don't have bare metal exposed?

Becca, if you do find out something about how to go about that, I would love to know what the solution is.  My leading edges on the wing and tail could use a little TLC.

Just a suggestion for you.  Give Teresa at ArtCraft Painting in SMX a call tomorrow.  She may have some good suggestions for you.   [805) 925-5934

One more bit of information too.  I realize our beautiful Central Coast of California is far from Texas, but.................if and when you decide to put new paint on your beautiful Mooney, I highly recommend ArtCraft.

It has been 3 years since they did my paint process.  The aircraft looks absolutely gorgeous to this day [Ok, I'm a bit biased].   All seriousness aside, the paint quality remains terrific.

Jolie and I have no financial interest in ArtCraft whatsoever.  We are just delighted to tout ArtCraft for your Mooney based on our experience with both my plane and now Jolie's Maggie [winner in her class at the 2011 MAPA convention!!].

I did express to Teresa that when my plane was done and our West Coast Mooney owners saw the finished product, they would want to get their plane painted there too.  I am happy to say that since Feb. of 2009, over 25 Mooneys are now outfitted with an ArtCraft paint job.

Honestly, I do not know of one Mooney customer that has had an issue with quality from ArtCraft painting.  Many of you folks are here on MooneySpace.

One more piece of information, you might just inquire at their complete strip, prep. and repaint price right now..........you may be just simply delighted and the flight out might be worth it!!

My 2 cents only. Cool

I have been using Rust-Oleum spray can from Home Depot for the last 25 years with very good results. The Gloos White matches exactly the factory white. It works very well specially on the landing gear.

My best results for touch ups is to brush on catalyzed acrylic enamels of appropriate colors (find out the paint code)...than wait 2 weeks....all the paint chips you have painted look lousy at this point...but after colour sanding...basically wet sanding with 600 or finer sandpaper...you can blend the repair in very well...kpc

I buy touch up paint from Aero Touch Up dot com (or something close to that).  It is amazing what you can do with going lighter on the hardener and using a good brush.  I repainted one of the exhaust covers, gave it a wet sand and a buff and it looks like the OEM job.

My touch up paint came from the local hobby store. Sure, I felt funny walking in carrying the ELT door [which has all of my stripes plus the base color], but the little ¼ ounce bottles are pretty cheap. There's also a wide selection of brushes and cleaner. My bill totalled less than $10. I just can't keep them in the hangar, the winter weather ruins the paint.

I took a paint sample to an automotive paint supply company and had a perfect match put in a can for about $15. Works great for small touch ups like stone chips on the leading edges or landing gear.

I'm on my way from NY to Artcraft in CA. Making a few stops along the way for maintainace. Should be there by sat or mon. Depending on how long I succumb to the temptations of Vegas.

I was originally going to go to don Maxwell’s but there were some areas of severe weather along that route Monday. I decided to get my tanks sealed in Willmar and I am glad I did. Paul at weep no more is a great guy and did a fantastic job on my tanks. Also it cost the same to do 3 inspection panels that I paid a MSC to do 1. Im very happy. I am now stuck in ALVA, OK for the last 2 days getting some work done on my interior plastics from the folks at Plane Plastics. So far so good. I hope to be in Albuquerque tonight and then to Sin City for the weekend.

The more I think about your adventure, the more I believe this is a great story for the MAPA LOG.

"Mooney Ambassador restores plane while flying cross country"

I know we would all love to hear and read about this.

How about alodine, or primer?   Just paint the bare aluminum with a single stage spray enamel?

Who said "spray"? The little ¼ bottles use brushes, thus the need for brush cleaner. I'm not worried about priming an area the size of my fingernail; anything at all is better than bare metal, right? Or would you just wax over the bare spot and call it "protected but unattractive"?
