This is the inflation bear trap!  Need to raise interest rates to fight inflation but can’t because we have too much debt.   For all of the fools who said government debt doesn’t matter here is one of the reason financial responsibility in government is important!  High debt limits your options. 
 

I suspect this is only going to get worse as China and Russia are taking about dropping the petrodollar.  With lower international demand for US currency more of it is going to flow back into this country exacerbating our inflation problems.   I would expect high inflation is going to be with us for sometime.  We can’t raise rates enough to actually address the problem and there is no interest in reducing the spending of the government and our foreign policy is steering us right over an economic cliff as large numbers of countries are looking to drop our currency.   This was all avoidable which is really frustrating.  
 
good news….My Mooney will keep going up in value rapidly…..at least in US dollar terms.

You know - we all have political views.  Its just that some of us understand that we don't do that here on Mooney space.  Some of us don't seem to understand that and they think their political views are either so important or so funny or they are so important that its ok, we all want to hear your politics anyway.  Its a matter of respecting a community agreement which means respecting each other.

My grandfather- who was a very successful business man, had all sorts of jokes, many off color, about all sorts of things, but this one reminds me of a joke about spending money he told.

Airplane market is crazy.  Auto market is crazy. Everything seems crazy.  I'll just putt around in my lowly C. It starts when hot or cold. It goes between 130 and 145 knots depending on my mood.  Too much invested in the panel.  After 40+ years flying, thousands of hours, it is all the airplane I now need.
Some have referred to the C as a starter airplane.  Makes a pretty good ender airplane also.

I agree… I really don’t know if and for how much I would sell my M20C. Whatever I ask for would not reflect the attention and love I have put into that plane.

After so many years everything looks and feels like I want it to be. I get into the plane and I know exactly what I can expect.

Of course there is always a price at which I would be tempted to sell… but I really don’t know if there is a buyer out there that would pay that price…

So just keep the plane and enjoy it while we can.

Hi everyone. I just joined this forum because I’m actively looking for a Mooney. And wouldn’t you know it, here’s a thread about the airplane I’m looking at. I agree with the OP that 80k seems high, that is until you look around at the offerings that are available right now. A couple of responses on this thread have alluded to the high prices of all aircraft right now, and that is absolutely correct. It’s crazy what folks are asking for airplanes with high time engines, older avionics, etc. And it’s not just Mooney’s.
 

 If I should end up with this hot rod, I’ll post some pictures. When I called Avemco for an insurance quote, it turns out that the serial number indicates that it’s a “Aerostar” Mooney. But if you look at the pictures in the ad, it doesn’t have the Aerostar tail. Being a 1970 model, maybe this one was built with the  inventory that was left when Aerostar purchased Mooney. I’ll be checking on that, along with the pre-buy. 
 

Anyway, glad I found this forum, it’s loaded with great info.

Thanks for the insurance info. The Aerostar tail doesn’t worry me too much, other than if maybe it changed due to damage or something like that. Plus, it was one of those things that made me say hmm… as I continue to learn about the differences in models. Again, thanks for the info, it’s very appreciated.

I love my 1970 C, but this is the first I've heard "Aerostar" and "1970 Mooney" mentioned in the same sentence. Mine has no reference to them at all. :blink:

My Mooney is considered a 1963 C model.  However, it was built in 1962.  So if yours was listed as a 1970 but built in 1969 then it may have missed the Aerostar take over in 1970.

It was firmly built in 1970. Memory isn't clear, but i think the airworthy date was in the summer.

Yeah, I wouldn’t have known any different, except for the fella mentioning it when I got the insurance quote.

Chatted with a fellow in a nice looking Arrow the other day.  He had just picked it up for a mere $150K.

I'm looking for partners right now, showing the airplane to a couple potentials this weekend.  My current valuation is $75K, based on what I'm seeing in the market. If I sell it that's what I'll ask for.  That said I have quite a bit of interest from potential partners so I think I'll be a Mooney owner and an Airman for some time yet.

I think I need to re-title this thread!  $80K is beginning to look like a bargain-basement deal for a C!  There have been a couple well north of $100K recently.  I guess in comparison to similar aircraft, the Mooney is still a good choice even at that price.

I have had zero push back in my valuation and might have thought to go higher.  I had a pilot come by who looks like a good fit for a partner, and more interested. I cannot be more pleased.

I’d believe it.  Prices are high these days with inflation and lack of inventory.  I don’t know if he’ll get $80k but it does have a rebuilt engine with low time.  I didn’t check the avionics but for my E I’d be looking for $70k these days for sure with a 1500 hr engine.  Garnish and autopilot and good paint make it valuable.

Some of the best advice I got before buying my  E was to buy it with an autopilot with altitude hold if possible.  And a WAAS GPS.  The autopilot is a life saver on long trips and it’s like $15k or more to install one now.  Pretty much same with the GPS.  Just fyi.

However, "lowly" is in the eyes of the beholder.  I suspect that the jet crowd would consider ALL Mooney's "lowly", primitive, or use other derogatory terms.  Happily you and I know the C is the top choice for discriminating Mooney buyers.  The "lofty J" is just an overpriced, stretched C.

Of course, true Mooney lovers would only own a Mite.  -_-

I saw a J in the shop up close and I was astounded how close in size it actually seemed to my short body E.  Definitely not worth the up charge in my mind for like 15 knots...unless I have a ton of disposable income...
