rbridges Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 Someone on the mooney facebook needs an ASI. I told him he could have mine. Same year, but different flap speeds. Is that something an avionics shop could change? Mine just had white tape added on the display. Quote

Good instrument shops are capable of screen painting a new face plate with the latest easy to read graphics... For not many fractional AMUs... Some MSer did this when he wanted KIAS in Place of MIAS on the outer ring... POH data rules that business like any of our instruments... Be prepared to copy the limitations section out of the POH when talking to the instrument shop... PP thoughts only, not an instrument guy... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

By just changing the tape on the surface of the glass an A&P can do it, i.e., if the instrument is not opened up, just remarked on the glass surface. The markings have to be correct to the POH/limitations for the specific airplane. 1 1 Quote

I prefer the Cessna-style airspeed indicator with KIAS on the outside ring. I bought one with the correct range off eBay, and sent it to Rudy instruments in Arkansas for calibration and silkscreening with the arcs from the Mooney POH for my aircraft. Didn't cost that much, maybe 0.2 amu. 3 Quote
