bmcconnaha Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 Shop forgot to remove the seatbelt I had around the yoke for a gust lock before they towed it in. Can that damage the interconnect for the aileron to rudder? Or, am I mistaken on how this system operates? Quote
MB65E Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 I don’t think that would damage anything. You basically do the same thing during a flight control check. The Interconnect spring will just stretch. -Matt 1 Quote

There is a spring, but I don't think you need to worry that much: it does not feel very rigid as I can still sideslip my Mooney left and right 1 Quote

Ibra Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 Just now, bmcconnaha said: I thought about that while I was wondering lol. That still leaves the possibility that the spring is not broken in the first place when I was sideslipping I find myJ flies so coordinated in turns that I think that spring is still silently working rather than superior rudder skills (but I am happy take instructors & pilots compliments for that ) 1 Quote
carusoam Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 Spring schmings... Lets take a stronger example... Let’s say you are soooo ham footed (?)... you jam the rudder pedal to the floor... either one, it won’t matter... A hurricane naturally springs up... and starts moving your plane against its will... and yours... In some cases... the tire rolls... In other cases... the tire scrubs sideways leaving a dark mark on the ground... In all cases... a lineman is not expected to be able to notice the difference between right and wrong... And can clearly rip the nose gear clean off a brand new Acclaim, after exceeding its noted turning limitations.... and deeply denting the tube structure... How is that for graphic terror? Some linemen have insisted on proving the Paulie Exclusion Principle, at your expense... Why do they have to prove... no two electrons, (Or nose gear tubes) can occupy the same space, at the same time? It is possible that the lineman is a quantum physicist in training... For pilots... who really are the smartest beings on and off the planet... we have rudder / aileron interconnects... Springs for what? Not paying attention very well? Do you remember the secret code and incantation for doing a slip? Springs are really cool... they stretch, even when they didn’t get told to do so... What happens when... you are hard on the right rudder, while applying left aileron, and getting towed at the same time? Were you wearing your seatbelt then? PP stuff I have read about on MS... Best regards, -a- Quote

Best regards, -a- Thanks for all the scary stuff lol my guy was in a hurry to get it in, we had 50kt winds and it was about to start raining followed by snow... plus he did me a favor by getting it in on his day off... he sent me a photo of it all happy in the hangar but i noticed the aileron was still deflected... 1 Quote
