Everyone, I'm wondering if there's any m20 owners out there running the hartzell 2 blade scimitar. I'd like to know how you feel about it and if you've noticed any performance gain at Cruise or anywhere else for that matter.I'm changing from a hartzell three-blade to the two plates Emmett are as I hear it's almost identical in the climb.

I am running it but the plane came with it when I bought it so I don't have anything to compare it to. Looks great and flies great in my opinion.

I've got the same question.   The prop on our C has the hub with the ECI AD.   It is due for an overhaul.  We are trying to decide whether to do that or upgrade to the Top Prop.   I've read some postings that the Top Prop is quieter, is optimized for higher efficiency at high-speed which I guess means that it increases cruise speed a bit (?), but adds 3% to the takeoff roll, so it is a bit less efficient at low speed.

search for this using google:  "hartzell top prop speed increase site:mooneyspace.com"   you'll read various things on this site.

I'm def gonna stick with 2 blades.   Climb performance is seldom a major concern for me.   Cruise speed is what I want.  My co-pilot would appreciate a quieter prop.

Like @R-Banger we have the Top Prop scimitar. And, like him, ours was put on the plane before we bought it last year. So I can't give a comparative review, but I'm very pleased with the performance of our plane...but I like that there's no recurring AD. :D Our field elevation is right about 7,000 ft, with density altitudes of 10,000 or more during the summer. Even with all of that, our E performance impresses me.

Same story here also. The Top Prop conversion was already on plane when I purchased it. I have the stock C, no speed mods except a few antennas removed. Takeoff roll seems to match the book, and cruise at 140kts at 7.5k/22”/2400 but am normally 2200lbs.

I am a little confused on the operation of the top prop in that this is the required placard: ” No cont. ops. above 24″ btwn. 2350 and 2550 rpm” (M20E & M20F only)

I am almost always currently at these limits in cruise.    Many times I am running over square at 10k and above so for example 26 mp at 2500 rpm.

Are you saying you're getting 26" at 10,000 feet in a NA engine?  I routinely fly 10-12K in CO and get 20", maybe 21" with the Power Boost.

No I have the RayJay Turbo.  So, I am "turbo normalized".  In fact always wonder when ATC ask why type of aircraft should I be adding the turbo?

Make them wonder how a 76F is climbing at 750ft a minute at 17k
