mooneyflyfast Posted May 16, 2020 Report Posted May 16, 2020 During my annual just completed I had the control yokes on my 81 J model powder coated. Before and after photos are attached. I was pleased with the results. 3 Quote
bradp Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 Did you do a texture? Look great. I’ve thought about using the cerakote product. Are our yokes a magnesium or a strange aluminum alloy? Quote

Are our yokes a magnesium or a strange aluminum alloy? I don't know what they are made of but blasting the old stuff off and powder coating seems to work fine. Smooth finish. Should be pretty durable from what i've heard of powder coating. Quote
louisut Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 Did you go with someone local? The yokes in mine look similar and I'm thinking about doing the same at annual. Any tips? Quote

It's a mom an pop operation and they are very accomodating. You will be pleasantly surprised at the cost. Quote

Mufflerbearing Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 They look amazing! Such a simple but very effective improvement. Quote
rotorman Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 How much trouble to remove the yoke and wiring? Quote
rcwagner Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 I would also like to know how much trouble to remove the yokes for a powder coat. That is a huge improvement and would be a good project for the J. Quote
bradp Posted May 17, 2020 Report Posted May 17, 2020 Yokes are simple to remove. Just don’t forget the set pin. It’s the wires that go to the yoke. They can get complex because the trim switches, autopilot disconnect, ptt etc are most likely soldered and don’t have any cannon connectors, etc. Quote
