Garland Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 Hi Mooney Space! I'm wondering if anyone is based out of John Tune, knows someone that is, or somewhere in the Nashville area. I've seen a couple Mooney's around and have gotten very interested in them. My families company currently have a Saratoga II and TBM 700 based out of Colorado. I finished up my private in November and am working on my IR. I've got 65 hours, primarily in a 172, and am going through transition training in an Arrow through Harmony Air. The plan has been to bring the Saratoga to JWN for me for business use, but it needs some panel work done, and I'm wondering about selling it and finding either a M20K Encore or M20M TLS. First I need to see if I fit! (6 foot 3, 230) Any help would be appreciated, and I'm happy to be here! Thanks everyone Kyle Quote
Oldguy Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 Kyle, Welcome aboard. There are several of us here your size or larger. I am 6'4" and about 225 and fit comfortably in my J. The F, J, and K have the same cabin size (mid-body) and the M and up are stretched a bit more (long body). From what I recall, the increase in cabin length wound up in the rear seats and baggage area. It is not uncommon to see a request for pedal extensions as some find the seating position and the closeness to the panel disconcerting. The best way I can describe it is the seating in a 172 is more like sitting in a Chevy truck and sitting in a Mooney is closer to an MGB. If you can get down to Cullman, AL (KCMD) on 1/26, a few of us are gathering for lunch, and you might be able to see how you would fit in several different models. Quote

From what I've read around here, the consensus seems to be that they're plenty roomy. Talk to almost anyone that doesn't have one, and it seems like they all think they're slightly larger than a coffin I'll see if I can swing that! Sounds like it'd be a perfect opportunity. Thanks! rbridges Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 Obviously I'm mooney biased, but the Saratoga is going to have more useful load and room. Just make sure the mooney meets your needs. As far as your size, it shouldn't be a problem. Quote
carusoam Posted January 3, 2019 Report Posted January 3, 2019 Welcome aboard Kyle! I like your thinking... and your aviation family back ground... The Bravo is a great plane for use over Mountains... Use over mountains takes on a whole bunch of flying responsibility. Be ready for that too... Most people want to have their instrument rating to best prepare for such higher level aviation endeavors... what are your next steps in training? expect your insurance company will want to see your experience to go with that plane.... it’s their way of saying get more experience before getting too much airplane... Nothing like getting training and experience to make you better at what you do! In this case, it is important for your health too. Best regards, -a- Quote

I don't have a family(yet), so for personal use it'd be just me and my wife and possibly our dog. Our company is based in northern Colorado, so flying back and forth becomes an easier, more realistic option in something like a Mooney compared to the Saratoga. Quote

I'm hoping to have my instrument by May or June, if I can fly enough. My ultimate goal is to be able to fly our TBM, or whatever comes after, so getting CC time, retract, hi performance, etc. is top of mind for me. 5 hours ago, goterminal120 said: Im right down the river at tn77, I can get you in a J model for an afternoon if you’d like.
