67M20F
Sent the mooney in for annual and now I wish I hadn't used that coupon.67 M20F IO-360-A1A1. Oil around intake tubes, told by many other mooney shops that this is normal, after 350hrs you can see one drop on each of them. 2. Fuel tanks leak, also told that a small whep that isn't glisting is not an issue, he wants to start patching all the leaks, saying that any leak no matter how small is unairworthy! What the hell I thought leaking wet wings werer the norm, as log as it doesnt get bad. 3. Alerions are to loose, if you move the alerion at the outside about a 1/8 of an inch you will start to move the yoke, and the other alerion. Was told there are 9 conections in there, so that is small you barrely can feel it when you pull and push on the rod at the alerion. They didn't remove the inspection plate to look at the trim conection. One panel on the back of the belly, there are three others. Didn't check the play in the tail. So getting a fairy permit to take it to another shop, thanks for letting me vent.
Greg_D
I guess anyone who believes you need a "fairy permit" to move an airplane would be prone to believe you can get a good Mooney annual inspection for $699.
TurboExec
My first question would be "How well does this mechanic know Mooneys?" I'd second what greg said, get some referrals to some good mechanics that know "Mooneys". I'm not suggesting just Mooney Service Centers, I personally use a "Shade Tree Mechanic" but he's owned Mooneys and has been working on planes longer than I've been alive....so he knows his stuff. MooneyMike
I quote "he wants to start patching all the leaks, saying that any leak no matter how small is unairworthy!" Really? Does your mechanic even have the maintenance manuals? The manual describes the size of leak which is allowable and when it is not. It sounds like your best move is to take it to a Mooney friendly A&P or a MSC. If your airplane is out of annual or the mechanic writes it is unairworthy then you would need a ferry permit but those are not difficult to obtain. Good luck, Mike
airkraft
Agreed. A MSC or a, truly savvy independent IA. Don't mess around with any less!!!...GK
67M20F
Taking it to KEVW to a guy I have heard good things about, and he knows what manual to look at.
