Dream to fly Posted April 1, 2017 Author Report Posted April 1, 2017 I looked behind my panel and the last owner(s) apparently didn't care what it looked like behind the panel. I am so tempted to just removed every single wire and electronic mechanical device in the plane and start over. Lay it all out and make it neat. If I have a problem right now with a switch it would take me literally hours to find the wire going to the switch then trace it back 12 inches its that bad. Quote

What you are going to find diving into the panel is everything from old factory wiring, to crappy installed new wiring to decent wiring. One of the reasons that I put the extra row of breakers in was to eliminate the 11 inline fuses that were installed over the years. If you have a friendly avionics shop, you could use their harness build jig and build out the wiring harness for the equipment you have or want to install. When I bought my first Mooney I did just that. It was easier than I thought it would be. When I was done I had a huge pile of wire that didn't go anywhere. I just stacked the radios up on the kitchen table the same way they went in the plane and started wiring. I had a friendly avionics shop who was happy to sell me all the connectors and pins. It took about a week of evenings to wire it all up and about a day to put it all in the airplane. I actually powered it all up on the table and listened to airplanes fly over. Quote

I wish I had a camera available I am sitting here with peg board and marking locations and figuring dimensions out for wire runs and tie off points. (at the kitchen table) LOL 5 Quote
mooniac15u Posted April 1, 2017 Report Posted April 1, 2017 An avionics hub might be a good solution if you are planning to redo your panel a little at a time and aren't sure exactly what components you might end up. http://www.approachfaststack.com 1 Quote
