Continental IO550 Intake Tube Wrap

Does anyone know what the wrapping that Mooney places on IO550 intake tubes is called?  More importantly, where can it be purchased?

What makes you think Mooney did it?

My IO550 intakes don't have anything like that.

I've only seen it on early Ovations. This is on a 1994 model.

I've never seen anything like it either and wonder if its really approved. If you don't get a good answer soon, I'd recommend sending your picture to Continental tech support for their answer - or call them, but they may need the picture too. If its approved they'll have a name and a supplier and maybe service bulletin on its use.

Mooney used it on old Ovations.  They also used some sort of black material for the same purpose around the same time.  At some point they stopped using it.  Not real sure of it's intended purpose, maybe thats why they stopped using it.  They also used to use scat tubing that was wrapped in a similar material in the engine compartments.  You can still order it by part number, but when you open the box, it's just scat tubing....
