I'm posting this on this page for a couple of reasons.  First and foremost is to share my ADS B conversion report.  I have a Garmin 400W and purchased a KT 74 mode S a few months ago.  On the day the Rebate program went live, I signed up and got a reservation number.  Had the Avionics shop install the following week.  Went online to schedule my flight test.

Here's where the story gets good.  I got a call from an FAA representative in DC.  He was beyond helpful.  Walked me through the flight check process.  I emailed him my route of flight.  Flew as planned.  The next day, he emailed two documents - the expanded report and the Four Box report of the system.  A confirmation code came with the report.  I went to the rebate site and entered the code.

My check arrived yesterday!

As much grief as we seem to have with the Feds, they have gotten this program right.  Mr. Usmaan Javed in DC was the consummate professional.

What a pleasant experience.  If you haven't applied for the rebate yet, do it now!

Brad, we had the KT74 (linked to GNS430W) installed a few weeks ago, completed our flight test and are expected our check (and eventually the 1099) soon.

We're a bit surprised on how dim the KT74 display appears.  It's at the far right of our the panel and a bit difficult to read.  How would you describe your KT74 display's brightness?

I haven't noticed it being dim, but mine is just slightly right of center.

There's a set-up / programing menu ... hold the FUNC button down when you power on .... but I can't recall for sure if it's in that menu .... ? Just be careful not to change anything you don't want changed  ... you push one button to change and another to save and move to the next setting ... FUNC and ENT ?  It's been over a year since I've used that menu ...

I wish.....we tried the setup menu, and there are 2 functions that both effect the dimmer (night sensor) of the KT74.  Based on our failed attempts to date these functions do not actually increase the intensity of the daytime display.

Mine too..very bright white display on black background

....and you have a KT74, the subject of this discussion?  I ask because my dim display is yellow on a black background, not white.

Of course I have read the KT74 user manual.  There's no help, since there are no specifics regarding the display brightness adjustment mode(s).  I also called Bendix-King support yesterday.  After the support tech read me the manual, he could provide no further support.  He took my number and said a "proper tech" would call me right back.  I'm still waiting for the callback.

I wasn't getting at you, I promise, you know me better than that.  Personally i think your installer has "tweaked" something on a function and it has made the display yellow and black although i cant see how for the life of me as it does not appear to be that type of display.  Have you tried cursing and swearing at it?  I find it helps sometimes? :)

Whats does your installer say or was it a Neil install job?

Actually you have given good advice (not the swearing and cursing part !)Pushing and holding function will access setup menus..caution if you see something you don't understand ,don't change it .Its been awhile and I had the install guide but I recall there is a menu for display brightness but not for color.I could go out to hanger and find my install guide if you need it
