I will be moving to NJ next month and basing my M20F at KBLM.  I would appreciate any insights about about maintenance and avionics facilities that are either recommended for use or for avoidance. I try to do regular IPCs so a lead on a good CFII would also be helpful. Please feel free to PM me if that allows for increased candor.

I would also welcome and information on good spots for $100 hamburgers etc.

Thanks,

Glenn

Welcome to New Jursey. I served 6 years there in the 1980s. :) There are some nice place to travel to from the Monmouth area. Cape May has a nice aviation museum, Ocean City has a nice airport within walking distance to the ocean and there are a number of flyable locations up and down the east coast. Or you come out further west and see the rest of us fun loving Mooniacs.

Glenn is going to be our second MSer to move to the great Garden State!

Hank stopped by a while ago before he decided on moving to Alabama.

Who's next?  We'll celebrate with a fly-in!

Best regards,

Look to Join the NJMP organization.  See Mikey 201er for details...

Our central Jersey MSC is well appreciated.... http://www.airmodsflightcenter.com/home

Our local MSer there, I think, just mentioned Florida...???

What brings you out this way, Glenn?

Best regards,

-a-

I am moving back to NJ to retire.  I grew up in Cherry Hill, my wife is from Paterson, and my daughter lives in NYC.  We will move to Point Pleasant Beach in December.  I am looking to meet some MSers.

It will be interesting to get used to the contested airspace as well.

See you at the airport.

Anthony--

It was nice to finally meet you, and we were glad to share a great breakfast. But moving is all about the complete job offer package, and the folks in Auburn were willing to pay the full moving cost and provided six months' paid, furnished temporary housing. Combined with leaving snow country to head homewards, it was too good to pass up. But it was also a move from the frying pan into the fire . . .

I don't work for them any more, either--I'm now about 40 minutes away, living in the rose bed (with only a few thorns!).

Life is good! Go where you want to go and make the best of it that you can, fly as often as possible, but above all, fly safe!

Glenn, you will probably never find as sweet of setup as you had in Indy being so close to your Hanger in you beautiful home. Congrats on the retirement! Come on down to SNF a few days early each year and we can knock out the IPC's and FR's for you.

Did you go to East or West?

When I went 1966 there was only West.

I am based at KBLM.

1. Long runway but no approach / glide slope lights.

2. VOR A and GPS approaches only

3. Should be plenty of hangars available. $ 475/month

4. Gas delivered by truck or self station

5. No maintenance shop or mechanic on the field

6. Taxiways are terrible. Chunks of asphalt, cracks, rocks, pebbles and sand everywhere. My prop got overhauled and after two hours it looked exactly as before.

7. Very little activity on the field. No flying club, no pilot organization, no life. Sometimes I come on beautiful Saturday and it is like a ghost town.

It is a private airport and I think it is way too big to keep it in a good shape. There are many buildings, warehouses, all kind of business and storage that has nothing to do with aviation. Everything is old and rusty.

But it is a good location, long runway / multiple runways.

I am a native New Yorker and always will be a New Yorker at heart. However, I do not feel that I could ever live there again because it is a place that does not respect the Second Amendment.  I understand it is much the same in New Jersey. (How is that for a thread hijack:)!

Cape May Airport KWWD has a nice little diner (hours are shorter in the cold weather so it pays to call ahead, ask me how I found that one out....). They also have a pretty cool aircraft museum with lots of neat war birds, worth checking out. Its also close to the beach but I have not used to for beach access yet.

Chester County MQS has a diner that's not bad but that's about all that's there.

Lancaster Airport KLNS has a diner and hosts events every once in a while. Amish country is also pretty cool and you can grab a car there and explore for the day.

If you ever want some company for the flight my calendar is pretty free...

Regards

Dave

And don't forget N57 New Garden, home of Marauder! And oh, our airport has an annual airshow, a number of pancake breakfasts, a hot air balloon festival and hopefully in 2017, a Mooney Right Seat Ready event.
