Anyone do a panel upgrade and have a GDL 39 they'd like to sell?  Ideally I'd like to try it out first with my Garmin Pilot to make sure it works before I have to pay for it ...  I'm good for the money, more that I am somewhat distrustful of electronics.

See if I get this right...

Big G hardware may not be compatible with Big G software that is resident on an android device?

Just a sign of what Big G has done to itself.

Thinking out loud...

Best regards,

I had a GDL39 but sold it when we installed the GTX345.  It worked fine for me with my Android tablets and Garmin Pilot.  You do have to be aware of its limitations though.  Keep in mind, that for me, traffic is the biggest advantage of ADS-B.  Weather is kind of nice but you can always get that with the mark-1 eyeball or a call to FSS.

Since it is not ADS-B OUT you will only see ADS-B OUT equipped traffic all the time.

You'll only see ADS-R traffic if you are relatively close to someone who is OUT equipped.

Since the antenna is inside the plane, the airframe may block the GDL view of some ground stations.

You'll either be limited to battery life (about 4-5 hours), need to use the lighter adapter, or permanently connect it to ships power.

Mine tended to move around on the dash too so I put a hook piece of velcro on it and a loop piece of velcro on the dash.  That did a good job of keeping it properly oriented.
