FWIW in my experience the ball-end type hex keys sometimes don't work as well as a regular one (in many hex screws or socket-head bolts). I prefer the ball-end types only when necessary for clearance. This may or may not have any bearing on your issue.

It's the KLX135 that I am trying to remove (I previously said the 155, which was wrong).  I pulled and pulled, but the deck never actually came loose, so something was wrong to begin with.  I imagine that I will have to take it to an avionics shop and pay them to remove it.  It's under warranty from work that was done in March, but that outfit is in California and I'm in Oregon.  Would be a fun excuse for a cross-country trip to just fly it down there though...

From the picture it looks like you have the 135 backed out, it's possible that the lock is caught on the AtT50 transponder.  Perhaps removing the transponder may release the 135.  To remove the transponder I think you'll need a 5/64 Allen wrench.  Narco used a different size than other manufacturers.

Remove the radio above and below it. You should then be able to get enough clearance between the case and radio to push the locking arm back down even if the screw is broken or stripped.

I'm headed up to Pacific Coast Avionics this Friday to get some help with it.  The compass needs to be looked at anyway, so we'll do both at once.  I may get his opinion on what kind of upgrades might by worth doing in my limited budget.

Clarence, you were right. It was caught on the transponder.  It's out now and will be shipped out for service since it's under warranty.
