  1. I believe that the one that is in there actually is an electric one.
  2. My C will make popping sounds if I run it rich during descent. Aggressive leaning eliminated it for me.
  3. I took a look at it today. The metal plate on the left magneto with the negative lead coming out of it was loose. All four bolts were partially unscrewed. I applied some Loctite and refastened the plate. Mag check successful after that. Thank you, gents! Saved me some cash and frustration with your expertise!!
  4. Exactly what I will check tomorrow morning. Thank you!
  5. I'm dealing with this same issue right now. During run up mag check, no drop when checking the right magneto. I just finished putting in an overhauled artificial horizon, so I wonder if I pulled on something inadvertently. Thanks for the info everyone.
  6. Loving all the pictures! Wish my C was out of the shop so I could fly it a bit too.
  7. Yep, I'm one of those guys that have been watching this thread from the beginning and enjoying your journey. Congratulations on getting it done and being able to wake up with that thought in the morning. It's a great feeling!
  8. I concur. But, I've sunk all my "spare" cash into keeping the bird airworthy.
  9. Thanks guys. Glad it is nothing too important.
  10. Glad I'm not the only newbie on here!
  11. I went to replace my comm 1 VHF antenna today with a new one that was recommended by an avionics guy as a direct replacement. The old one is cracked in the front and was painted (heavily) when the airplane was painted, making the reception very poor. Well, unfortunately, the bolt pattern was not the same as the old one. Anyone know of a suitable replacement? Preferably a newer, more modern product?
  12. See attached. I had been hearing a rattling/clanging noise and found the culprit under the rear seat cushion. Who will be first to tell me what it is?
  13. I admit to lurking. Thanks for all the informative posts. Can't wait for you to be able to fly it!
  14. I'm also a new C owner and found that the steering was more sensitive than what I was used to. My previous experience was in Cessna 150's. Mooneys are more sensitive. Before you write a check, I'd give it a little time to try and get accustomed to the difference between the two airframes and the handling. Could just need a little time in that new plane to get used to the difference. Welcome to the family. The folks here really know what they're talking about. Their advice has been invaluable to me.
  15. I think that you would actually be getting an okay deal if you got it for $35k and had to do that amount of work to get it to the turn-key status you are seeking. I bought mine for $35k (74 C) and it has less in the way of avionics, a little less time SMOH, and one tank that leaks when completely full. Some other minor issues to repair as well. I still think I got an okay deal. I would encourage you to try calling the seller again and having an open conversation. Maybe he/she took offense to the voicemail and you can square it away and get a little more knocked off the price?
  16. The FAA registration back log is over two months. I'd at least call them to figure out the registration details. Could be a major issue or non-issue.
  17. Keep in mind that there may be more damage than just the belly skin and engine. You may also need new flaps or flap hinges or potentially other items that are more serious. I would want to take a look at the spar. That being said, if money were an issue you could look at getting a used engine and prop 4 less than half the price of new and you would have potentially a very nice airplane for a little less money than most people are paying.
  18. I talked to a well known and trusted Mooney A&P yesterday, and it sounds like it would be about thirty hours of labor for just the one side. I'm thinking i will assist with the annual and assist with the fuel tank on the left side at that time. Then, when the right side starts to go, I can do it myself with confidence. I'm with you guys. I like doing things myself and being involved, but I have very little experience and want to feel confident it was done correctly.
  19. I guess I'm looking at a seven year warranty on an $8k fuel tank repair or a one time expense of having fuel bladders installed, right? How much are they typically?
  20. So, $7-8k for the re-seal of both tanks. How much would the fuel bladder upgrade be?
  21. I tried Googling the name of the A&,P and came up with nothing useful. How many hours did your guy bill for it?
  22. So, my POH for my '74 M20C only shows take off performance for altitudes up to 5000'. My CFI told me that this means you cannot take off (legally) from an airport above 5000'. Do your POH's show higher elevations in the performance charts?
  23. I was wondering where the closest experienced Mooney mechanic was. My guy admittedly is a Cessna guy. I'm thinking that an opinion from someone like that on the fuel tank issue especially is a good idea. Regarding the exhaust leak, the mechanic looked at it this morning and found that the inboard nut was missing. He's going to replace the nut and I'll monitor it for signs of a leak.
