Marauder Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 It is my understanding that starting in October, GA in the United States will need to use the ICAO codes when filing. I see Garmin Pilot has the codes available and was wondering if anyone has set them up yet? I tried walking through them, even using the help, but there are a few codes that either seem redundant or I am not sure they apply. Anyone set them up? Here are some screen shots. Quote
Marauder Posted February 21, 2016 Author Report Posted February 21, 2016 Since I am GPS/WAAS, mode C -- does SBG and C make sense for the top required fields? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Marauder Posted February 21, 2016 Author Report Posted February 21, 2016 And what do all of the optional codes mean? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk You can find all that out if you want to drill down that deep. There are plenty of texts with all the codes and, for Garmin people, Garmin has a spreadsheet of averything they have and what codes it meets. But... ForeFlight users received an email about an excellent blog post by John Collins. The theory is to only put in the stuff you need to in order to file a valid flight plan and get the appropriate ATC services. And he lays out exactly what entries will do that. Find it. It makes the conversion painless. It's on the ForeFlight blog. Quote

Deb Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 John Collins ForeFlight post: http://blog.foreflight.com/2016/02/05/filing-icao-flight-plans-in-foreflight/ John posts extensively on Beechtalk and is the go to guy for these types of questions. Here's one thread; his posts are on page 5 & 6: http://blog.foreflight.com/2016/02/05/filing-icao-flight-plans-in-foreflight/ Here's Garmin's info: https://fly.garmin.com/fly-garmin/support/icao-flight-plans and Garmin's spreadsheet with some equipment and codes: https://static.garmincdn.com/apps/fly/files/support/icao-flight-plans/Garmin_ICAO_Flight_Plan_Information.xlsx 1 Quote
Bob - S50 Posted February 21, 2016 Report Posted February 21, 2016 I've been using: SBDGR S = Standard (VOR, VHF Comm, ILS) B = LPV capability D = DME G = GNSS (GPS) R = RNAV capability. Requires entry of a PBN (Performance Based Navigation) code later. For the PBN code I just use D2 (RNAV 1 using GNSS) I think John and Bruce may have said you'll need to have the R code in there if you want to fly T routes. I could be wrong though. It's been known to happen before! 1 Quote
kevinw Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 Here's a four minute youtube video that walks you through setting up ForeFlight but it has some good info for Garmin folks also. It's essentially a video version of the blog. 1 Quote
