HopePilot Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Okay, guess how long Mooney told me today I'll be waiting (minimum lead time) to get a new elevator trim rocker switch? Quote
Sven Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Does this include the time it takes to mine the precious metals in Liberia and smelt them in a special kiln in Bora Bora? I'm guessing 90 days. Quote
mikefox Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 I second the vote: more than 90 days. Â I have an ugly-looking fuel pump rocker, and would have gladly paid for one when I did some recent panel work, but couldn't get one anywhere.... Quote
HopePilot Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 Well, because there is basically only one employee left at Mooney (sic), I was told to expect a lead time of 90 days!  Maybe I should start predicting what else I'll need 90 days from now so it'll be ready for me when the time comes.  If I was rebuilding the panel from scratch, I would probably do this: http://www.aveoengineering.com/Aviation/Airplane_Accessories/rocker_switches/RockRackClassic/index.php Quote

HopePilot Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 No dice from Chief. Â Has to be ordered from Mooney. Â Here are the necessary steps: 1. Â Send Mooney employee to New Orleans to buy voodoo kit. 2. Â Mooney employee returns and digs up Al Mooney to perform the necessary ritual of zombification. 3. Â Al Mooney (or, rather, his zombie persona) attempts to rebuild the part. 4. Â If Al Mooney is unsuccessful, the whole procedure is started again from scratch only this time they raise his brother Art. 5. Â The completed part is put in the warehouse seen at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark for an additional 30 day hold. 6. Â Mooney lays off the worker who knew where the part was being stored. 7. Â Start over at step one and repeat as necessary. Quote
LuvFlying Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 At least 2 months.... that's how long I've been waiting for a fuel pump switch. But luckly I'm not in any hurry. A spritz of WD-40 made it go from unusable to almost new. I think the think that makes them Mooney Specific is that the label is printed/engraved on the switch. >:-| Quote: HopePilot No dice from Chief. Â Has to be ordered from Mooney. GeorgePerry Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 You might try wentworth aircraft salvage...they've got alot of old mooney's in inventory http://www.wentworthaircraft.com/ Quote
Piloto Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Try www.digikey.com and do a search on their website under rocker switch. They have over 1,000 rocker switches types. You will need to check switch manufacturer and switch dimensions. They have the data sheet of every switch. Average price for the switch is $3.00 José  Quote
Comatose Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 To be fair to Mooney, the whole electronics component industry is a mess right now. I have parts I ordered in June that aren't scheduled to arrive until February, and I ordered 100,000 of them. A 12 week lead time has become the new norm. If they were unlucky enough to run out of something, there may not be much they can do to expedite the process... Quote
peter Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 The switch is a Klixon TC-20 "single–phase, switchable on/off, rocker–type" circuit breaker. See: http://www.sensata.com/klixon/circuit-breaker-aircraft-20tc.htm Labelling options are listed on the left sidebar. Option 16 is for the "elevator trim" label. The switches are distributed by Edmo. You should be able to order retail through LASAR, who will certainly be able to tell you if there are any other options for the part. The LASAR guys saved me almost $700 during my annual by pointing me in the right direction on a part my local shop thought I needed, that I didn't. Good luck!  Quote

HopePilot Posted October 13, 2010 Author Report Posted October 13, 2010 Actually, it was LASAR that eventually had to go to Mooney to order the part. Â THIS JUST IN: Â "Zombie Al Mooney" has gotten loose and invented the first jet ski to go 100 mph on 100 horses! Quote

jlunseth Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 I wish there were a snopes.com for Mooney OWT's. OK, my switch is Pitot Heat, not Elec. Trim. In stock at the factory, nowhere near 1,800 Quote
