Aren't turbo props something 100 times less likely to go belly up for cratering a hole than a piston? (but just as likely to stop for fuel starvation whether that be pilot error or fuel pump issues). I thought it was 1000 times more reliable. -Seth Quote

bonal Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I was waiting to win the lottery for this upgrade now I need to get the winning numbers Quote
carusoam Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I'm jealous, I didn't get that email! Second door, composite materials in a larger way. Best regard, -a- Quote

aviatoreb Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Almost looks like a hoax ad. But I bet its real. Oooh smooth carbon. Are the wings covered in carbon too? If so I bet its going to be 250TAS now. Quote
takair Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 If real, that is so cool. It's quite an underwhelming way to announce such a huge change. No mention on Mooney website or even Delta Aviation web site. Wonder if that post will mysteriously disappear.... This was an Oshkosh worthy announcement! Quote

flight2000 Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Just now, Mcstealth said: What is FMS? FMS = Flight Management System. Mooney went all Cirrus on us. They've had the FMS system for a few years now and both doors since inception... Cheers, Brian 1 Quote
KSMooniac Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I believe this was supposed to be announced at OSH last year, but of course it is hard to get things thru the FAA in a timely fashion these days. I'm also puzzled at the way it has been announced. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
Mcstealth Posted February 11, 2016 Author Report Posted February 11, 2016 I hope there is a gross weight increase hidden in the details. Quote
Shadrach Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 So now that the forward fuselage is carbon, how hard to make it a pressure vessel? Quote

If the new cabin is now made entirely of carbon, what do any of us know about what is possible with the new M20 Frame? Quote

Won't the carbon fiber weigh less than the aluminum-covered aluminum structures it replaces? So Useful Load can increase while Gross stays the same. Unless the door and interior added weight. How much weight would a second door add? Gotta be some, unless the carbon fuse doesn't have the famous, safe steel roll cage inside it . . . Quote
FlyDave Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I think is was KSMooniac that said "holes aren't free" or something to that effect. I'll bet the weight savings of the carbon fuselage was offset by the added door. Quote
mooneygirl Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 The spec sheet on the Ultra is on http://www.Mooney.com just look for the press release. The press release does say to hold until tomorrow, so for whatever that is worth. Quote
carusoam Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 TSIO-550-G with 280hp and 2200 hrs TBO. Question: why Not TSIO-550-N updated cylinders compared to the G, with 310hp? Best regards, -a- Quote

takair Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I really like it, but would need a lottery winning to afford it. They mention that the doors are widened 4", but I think they mean they were elongated vs. a wider fuselage? Perhaps for better rear seat entry? In the in flight photos, the top of the doors don't seem flush. Is that just the photo or intentional? Quote
Hank Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 The doors look wider when they are open. Has nothing to do with fuselage width, its c a C wider opening to get in and out through. 1 Quote
gsengle Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 Oh well a couple of inches cabin width was my biggest wish Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

But given the huge change in build material to a one piece carbon structure, I don't think one can say for sure that there will be weight gain. Quote
