Cwalsh7997 Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Hey guys in my plane recently when I takeoff and climb and cruise I hear this sound that sounds like someone is flapping a deck of cards through and it's a constant tone. Sounds like something is loose or something if someone could please help? Quote
N33GG Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Cowl, cowl flap, or gear door loose. Maybe something else. Something loose... find it, fix it. I had a similar problem years ago and didn't take it seriously enough. Could have become a big problem in flight. Good luck! Quote

Yetti Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Last week I had a tone change in the exhaust that sounded like flapping. Seems like the tail pipe broke right behind bell pipe swell. It was my time to pay another monthly honorarium to the maintenance gods. Check for loose stuff that should be tight. Quote
jrwilson Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Maybe passenger side seatbelt or door seal loose and flapping? Quote
Browncbr1 Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Do you have an ADF? When I bought my plane, it had the ADF antenna flapping and hitting the antenna, so I pulled all the ADF stuff out.. Quote
M20F Posted July 22, 2015 Report Posted July 22, 2015 Could be loose baffling. I would pull top of cowl off and poke around and look at the other obvious things others have suggested. The seat belt or door/baggage seals are obvious ones as well. I have had the seat belt issue a couple of times. Quote
MB65E Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 Check inside the exhaust. Some times the muffler comes apart from the inside and makes a horrible racket. -Matt Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted July 23, 2015 Report Posted July 23, 2015 No biggie. I see dead people... Quote
Mcstealth Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Did the flapping sound have any metal qualities to the timber? A soft resonance? DF Quote
