N601RX Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I have a question for anyone who has upgraded to the one piece rear window. In talking with LASAR about this they said I have to rivet a stiffener along the top of the window frame. It is about 1.25 inches above the top edge of the window and runs from the front to back. It is basically a piece of angle that is about 3/4X3/4 and the length of the window. I've looked at other planes that has the one piece window and do not see this rivet line. Is anyone else installing this stiffner? It would require drilling through the paint, dimpling rivet holes, setting rivets and paint touchup. What has other people who have done this mod done? Quote
GeorgePerry Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I had this done and I'm not aware of any such mod. Air Mods and Repair did my one piece window a couple of years ago. You might try calling them to get an answer. Here's a link to the thread that covers the mod. Scroll down until you see my post has all the contact info contained. http://www.mooneyspace.com/index.cfm?mainaction=posts&forumid=1&threadid=55 Quote
N601RX Posted September 9, 2010 Author Report Posted September 9, 2010 George, Thanks for the reply. I managed to find a picture of the brace I was asking about. According to Lasar and the Mooney drawing in the part manual the newer F models that came from the factory with the large rear window have this brace as part of the window upgrade. However, of the few planes that I have looked at with the large window upgrade, none of them have this brace. Quote
carusoam Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Mike, That bracket looks like you can seat the window up into it. Are there no screw holes for the window at the top? -a- Quote
