ryoder Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 Yeah I know the Mooney is too complex but how about a Mooney like airplane with a straight tail, good aerodynamics, constant speed prop, retractable gear etc. Maybe something like the Lancair. Call it the Mooney XP. Wouldn't that be cool? It could have an IO360 and take on the RV10 but with better mileage. Quote
Mooneymite Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 Actually, the Mooneymite can be built as a plans-built plane. However, as inexpensive as the factory built models are, I only know of three owner built Mites. I started building an RV-4, but about half way through the wing kit, I realized I could buy an already completed, flying RV-4 for less than half what it would cost me to complete mine. After buying, flying and re-selling an RV-4, I ended up about making about $5000. Enough to cover what I had invested in my kit. Anyone need an RV-4 wing and tail? 1 Quote
Johnnybgoode Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 I don't "need" one but might could be talked into needing one... What were you thinking? Patrick Quote
Mooneymite Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 I don't "need" one but might could be talked into needing one... What were you thinking? Patrick I just looked at Van's current price list. The empenage and wing kits are now a little over $6300 not including shipping. I bought mine quite awhile ago and paid a good bit less. Make me an offer I can't refuse and come and get 'em! Quote
MB65E Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 Man! Timing is everything. I had a RV4 Fuselage kit, tail kit, finishing kit, but no wing kit. At the time no wings or kits could be had. Ended up selling the project as parts due to a bad paperwork trail with prior owners. I think the -4 and -6 were the best on so many levals. After the -6 the pricing got expensive. It would still be fun to do a Vans project that one day! -Matt 1 Quote
1964-M20E Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 Really sweet if it would be a quick build kit about $65k for the complete airframe kit with interior finishes. Your engine and avionics and you are off. 1 Quote
HRM Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 I would rather have the ability to convert my E from certified to experimental with me as the A&P...as much as I love the hangar elves, there is a geas where they are unable to open a logbook. 1 Quote
