Ok, So I'm getting used to my new MVP-50. I FINALLY figured how to get the yellow light of annoyance to go off with EGT difference. I raised my factory default from 100* to 125*. That fixed the warning, but what am I really doing here? Should my cylinders be with 100* of each other on EGT with a carbureted engine? I'm not used to having this much information at my fingertips so I'm somewhat overwhelmed with all that I can see and do.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

I also realized that there are probably hundreds of features that I'm not taking advantage of. I'm open to hearing what everyone calls their "favorite feature" on the MVP.

Even if the temperature of the exhaust gas coming out of each cylinder was the same, the EGT seen by the probe can vary with minor differences in the probe installation.  The general consensus is it's not important for your EGTs to match across cylinders, only that each cylinder (ideally) reaches its individual peak EGT at the same mixture setting.

I'm sure there are operators who have fine-tuned their setups to the point where an difference-between-individual-cylinder EGTs alarm can be useful, but I don't know any personally.  In most cases it seems impossible to avoid nuisance alarms.

Abe,

There are not that many M20Cs with your level of instrumentation...

Fuel distribution from the carburetor will always be a challenge to maintain a close EGT spread.

You have two carb jets. the Main jet and the One that is only on at Full Throttle.

You can read up on some interesting topics like trying to fly the C, LOP....

Using carb heat to improve evaporation...

Using partial throttle to improve turbulence/mixing...

Great engineering opportunities may lie ahead!

Best regards,

I love the MVP-50 in my C, but you are correct about all the added info to sort thru. I can see temperature spreads of up to 150 deg on my engine depending on where i'm operating and my power settings. at 7K and higher WOT I can get the spread around 50, lower altitudes it is harder to keep my spread tight. I have also added a few other bells and whistles to mine, one is the airspeed. that one seems to bring on the light more than any other because I am always cruising at the bottom of the yellow arc.
