End of the PTS

I got this email from m0a today with the subject that the pts was going away in favor of more context based testing. Not a ton of info in this video but it mentions that private pilot will change by fall and instrument next year.

Interesting.

First I've heard about it.  I am about to start my CFI re-current.  I wonder if it will be addressed.

One thing I've learned over the years:  With the FAA, there's no such thing as a "nice change".  All change is painful!

"The report of my death was an exaggeration."

I've seen stuff on this for a while with comments from nationally-recognized aviation educators on both sides. Best I've been able to glean (without editorial comment) is that the goal is to involve far more aviation risk management and decision-making into the testing process on the theory that these are at least as responsible for GA safety issues as stick and rudder skills. Since it's the 21st century, this of course includes a new grading format more conducive to metrics analysis.
