FlyWalt Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Well. Follow up maintenance on our rebuilt engine reveals that our 45 year old gauges are inaccurate and erratic. I need to look at the options. Ideally, I would like to have properly labelled gauges with the red lines at the proper places. I have not priced anything yet but I would like to know what your thoughts are: Options are: 1. Rebuild original gauges and reinstall. (seems to make the most sense) 2. Purchase new from Mooney. (probably mucho expenso) 3. Purchase new from Aircraft Spruce (Id rather not do this as they are going to be generic) Quote
N601RX Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 I swapped mine out for a JPI 900. Much more information and more accurate also. Quote
AndyFromCB Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 I'm very, very happy with my Aerospace Logic combination MP/RPM gauge. Also, I see that Insight Avionics is in a process of releasing a combo gauge called GX-MXT. Quote
jetdriven Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 You can get an SLI mechanical tach with your markings on it for around 400$. The only downside is they use cheap crappy tape for the markings. But the Mitchell tach is a POS. mine broke 3 times in an hour. Quote

Aerospace logic is around a grand for the combo gauge and like I said, I am very please with it. It did not take very long to install. http://www.aerospacelogic.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=74 Quote
carusoam Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 What's your preference... Analog or digital? Mechanical or digital driven? Minimal data or so much data in a 3" circle your eyes will water? Or MS CB special, fix what I have? All are good, -a- Quote
Ratherbflying Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 I swapped mine out for a JPI 900. Much more information and more accurate also. ... And you get a $400 rebate on the EDM 900 until January 31st. https://www.jpinstruments.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/2Nov_Dec_sale14.pdf Quote
FlyWalt Posted January 17, 2015 Author Report Posted January 17, 2015 Well I have decided to fix what I have AND buy an EDM 800 system from Don Hague. Seems like the best option for my limited funds. Every time I open my checkbook, I can still hear the Giant Sucking Sound from the vacuum left from our engine rebuild several months ago. :-( Quote
N601RX Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 What is the price difference between that and buying a primary unit that is new and will replace all the gauges? I purchased a jpi 900 last spring for $2895 durring sun n fun and then sold the old removed gauges for around $400 Quote
