When I started my 89 J this morning, the Century NSD 360 HSI compass card started spinning, with the "HDG" flagging then not, all the while the card spinning. Vacuum showed good. I pulled the CB, turned on the backup vacuum, then reset the CB. All was good. Removed backup vacuum, all good. Flew an hour, had b'fast. Restarted. All good. Signs of impending failure, I guess. 3000 hrs on the HSI. Thoughts??

Where's Peter when you need to have him comment on fine Swiss Watches? ;)

I have the same HSI in my J and have had the same problem. I was told by the owner of an avionics shop this particular brand is a "problem child". The problem persisted and I ended up replacing it with one he had just pulled one out of a Baron for an Aspen install. He sold it to me for $500. It's been working fine the last year but I'm probably on borrowed time.
