Let me get out my Constitution and read it to check. (I think I already know the answer is not eligible) Ever read it? Certain people you love and adore think it should be re-written to say what the government can do not what it cannot do to it's citizens ...

 

Thanks for your answer, that's all I was seeking. 

 

According to the GOP, he is eligible because he was born to one American parent and that makes him naturalized.

It's not like he had a socialist father, socialist mentor, was raised in foreign nations and educated in private Muslim schools, returned to the US as a foreign student and decided to begin his planning his campaign in the living room of a known terrorist!

 

Maybe true, but his mother was born and raised in that far out land called Kansas.

Living his entire early life outside the U S and being educated in foreign schools has enabled him to really have that deep love and loyalty to our country and our Constitution! Wouldn't you say ...

 

He left Hawaii at 6, which is young, and attended the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School upon his arrival in Indonesia, then a public school for a year and was eventually home schooled by his mother (maybe she didn't like the public schools).

Oh, and then it was back to Hawaii when he was 10 where he attended a private prep school. I do believe this is where he was indoctrinated with his hatred for all things American.

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President;"

 

His parent was a US citizen at the time of his birth, so that probably makes him a natural born citizen.  Of course the term natural born citizen is not defined in the constitution.   And the wonderful public school system has "educated" folks over the years to believe that means physically born in the United States.  --Probably confusing it with the 14th amendment. "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside"

Chris, your response begs the question, is Obama a naturalized citizen by the mere fact that his mother was born in the U.S. even if, he was born in Kenya?

It would appear so, as he is president.  This is of course independent of the fact that he acts like a king..  Seriously, I wish the man would stay in DC.  It's a huge traffic mess any time he comes to town.

Let's not forget about McCain, who, as I recall wasn't a citizen when he was born but became one retroactively with the passing of a law. Hard to be retroactively "natural born" but somehow he managed, even without a birth certificate being released...

Sounds like you are trying to do little maneuvering by saying he must have been a naturalized citizen because he's president. No birther would accept that as an answer because they feel he's not a citizen and is the reason (or one of the reasons) why he should not be in office.

 

Speaking of birthers, down here around Palm Beach we have several low altitude intersections with the following names: DONLD, TRMPP, IVNKA and BRTHR

He was born in the Panama Canal Zone, which makes him a citizen. However, some say that he was born in a hospital that is outside of the designated zone.

It makes him a citizen now; but at the time he was born, the law wasn't in place. So when they passed the law, they included those born before said passing. It's definitely greymatter.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that.

My memory is fuzzy and I'm too lazy to look up the details, but that's how I recall it. I also remember that the Senate passed a resolution confirming him as a natural born citizen. Seems unnecessary if it were so clear, no?

I fail to understand the fascination with the British Royal family.   Why is the American population and media so adoring of them?  And when people start going on about "The Royal Family", I try to divert the conversation with something like "King Willem and Queen Maxima" are really good people.  And when I see the blank stares, I say "Oh, you mean your not talking about the Dutch Royal Family?"  There is more than one Royal Family in the world!  --anyway, independent of which royal family, I think they need to pay their fair share of taxes, which they don't.  I think maybe the French took the right approach with royal families.....

 

On a side note:  A few years ago I was traveling in Taiwan and I stayed at the same hotel as the King of Swaziland.  He had quite the entourage with him.  The older ones looked like dangerous thugs, and the younger ones (mid 20's) looked entitled and seemed to be looking for good party.  --I felt no need to interact with any of them.  Maybe some of our South African Mooney Space members have had different experiences.
