I really don't know what in the world the back seat is even for. I've been thinking about taking it out, then cutting about 2' off the empennage, then riveting the tail back on and making a real hot rod out of her! That would be sweet!!

In truth, I have used the back seat once.

I think it was last year, or the year before when I summarized my log book to obtain exactly this info. I fly an average of 80 odd hours per year and for that specific year, I flew all alone 92% of all flights.

I was considering migrating to something like an RV7. However, when they learned about this, my family quickly had me understood rather clear: It's four seats or no seats. :P

Sorry about the "no dog" option

You should see the look on some of the line guys faces when we all pile out.... Total clown car, for sure!

Thanks everyone for your responses and suggestions. I will be getting some paint sticks. I just don't want you guys reading about me running out of gas and landing in some farmers field. Thanks. Troy

Fascinating stats:

After a week of responses and polling by 78 MooneySpacers:

Just over 81% of us Mooney pilots flying with only 1 or 2 people in the plane the majority of the time (70%).

65% have filled their seats less than 6 days (with nearly 25% never filling 4 seats)

Yet 73% have filled 4 seats at least once and 94% have had at least 3 people in the plane

3 pilots here fly with 4 people on 70% of their flights

So, we are using the utility of our Mooney's, and a few members may be ready to jump up in class or use the utility to the max, but for most of us, we've found the sweet spot of having a fast airplane for one or two travelers, and 94% have flown with three or four seats occupied at least once using the flexibility of our aircraft.

Just fascinating to look at the stats.  Thanks for participating.

Now to make this really scientific; you need to understand the demographics of the people. I am willing to bet the 3 people with the seats filled 70% of the time are parents of young kids or swingers.

Pretty bird, Lee. Nice looking hawk, too, but then again, I'm partial to raptors. War Eagle! :-)

I fill all seats from time to time, usually with adults, sometimes with OPK. I don't count my dog as filling a seat, nor do I share mine with him in the plane.

For the past two mornings, I've looked out the bedroom window to see a hawk siting on the Mooney. Apparently he wants a ride! Lee

I sure he keeps other birds from making a deposit on you plane as well as 4 legged friends from setting up housekeeping inside the plane.  My feelings are you owe him a ride for services rendered unless of course he is making deposits on the plane then you can charge him for cleaning services. :)
