DaV8or Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Congratulations on Mooney ownership! Soon I hope to join you. When it comes time to do the windshield, I would seriously give some thought to the Southwest Texas Aviation 201 mod because it offers two little access panels on the cowling for servicing the avionics. I have seen both the LASAR and SWTA version and both are good, but the access panels seem pretty useful to me. If I had the choice, I would go SWTA. The airplane I am endevouring to buy already has the LASAR on it and I'm fine with it though. You'll be good either way. By the way, what are those radios in your panel? I don't recognise them. Quote

I like all the rest of the options on the Mooney though! I also believe there aren't any AD's on the mechanical gear. Quote

231Pilot Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Quote: KLRDMD The manual gear Mooneys were the only retractable gear airplanes ever certified without a backup system. Cheap and reliable. Quote
KLRDMD Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Quote: 201Pilot 1. Manual gear was last offered in 1968 2. the wing rivets are flush on the top and bottom surfaces for a cleaner and possibly faster effect Quote
HopePilot Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 How do you get rust on the outside of the wheel area (as seen in the e-bay ad) like that? I thought that area was aluminum? Quote
Barry Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Leaky fuel tanks. 100LL looks brown after a lot of leaking and it follows the edge of the opening. Had this on my plane in the past (not as bad, however). Quote
DaV8or Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Sad to see, but a plane like this really is a project for an A & P with experience. Very difficult challenge for a first timer. In this market, this one could turn out to be another parts plane. Quote
philipneeper Posted December 7, 2010 Author Report Posted December 7, 2010 it wasnt that it was a project.. just the army has different plans for me Quote
