The201pilot Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 Has anyone in Canada removed their vacuum driven system from a 201 with the install of a pro pfd/mfd combo with battery back-up ? I currently have the 1000 pfd pro installed coupled to 430waas..and will be installing another 430waas and mfd with battery back-up... Should this not enable me to have the vac driven equipment removed or am i being misled, any of you folks have some experience with this ? Lets disregard that the autopilot is driven by the attitude gyro for now as it will be replaced in the near future and rarely is used now.. Quote
Marauder Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I think the Aspen STC requires an external AI. It can be electric I believe. If you go for the extended battery pack version of the Aspen, I think you can lose the ASI and altimeter. Quote
David Mazer Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 I'm not an expert on these regs but I have a dual Aspen with battery backup and the avionics shop insisted that I had to maintain the vacuum driven AI. They wouldn't let me change to electric either. Quote
Cruiser Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 As mentioned above, Aspen's STC requires a backup AI. As for a vacuum or electric, that has nothing to do with Aspen. It has to do with well, lets just say, what is FAA acceptable in your plane. Quote
manu damaschin Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 ...as far as I know dual Aspen has to be Evolution 2000 instead of 1500, then you will have the redundancy needed...but if I remember correctly you will have to keep your AI. My opinion is to keep the backup AI on vacuum... Quote
