TWinter Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Looking for a good refurb shop for a KX155? I know there have been prior posts, but maybe somebody has the name and address handy of a shop they have used recently or previously. I am on the fence and considering putting my 73 M20E- 7741M on the market for a new caretaker. The plane near to perfect as I can make it. I've started to look for something with a bit more room and longer range. I've enjoyed making it mine the over the past year and half. Now with the new injection of life in Mooney Co I'm feeling more positive and thinking about stretching the budget. The only thing I need to wrap up o 7741M before really considering putting it on the market is to have my #2 radio, a K155 radio refurbished. There are a few digit segments burned out and some intermittent bugs in that radio that need to be worked out. Since having the Garmin GTN750 installed I rarely use the K155, but I want the bird near perfect. Do any of you have a recommendation for a refurb shop, turn-around time est, and basic bench cost? I'm looking to have the unit serviced and a new faceplate put on. I know the price will vary, but just a ballpark figure. If the plane goes on the market you will have to still tolerate my long winded posts. I have about three Mooney birds currently in my sites. If you happen to know somebody looking for an updated Mooney 73 M20E with mid-time engine please let them know this may go on the market shorty after the first of the year. There are few pics in my gallery. It won't be the cheapest, but it will be well equipped, updated A-Z and ready to fly. When and if I decide for sure I'll post it in the "For Sale" section. Noted in my forum pics..Some of the pics are before updates. If and when I post for sale I will give new and complete information. The info here is just a feeler. The interior is all new leather front to back, new wingtip strobes all LED lighting, JPI830, GTN750, Stec-30, etc..Look over some of my old posts and you will see occasional updates as I did them. Thanks in advance for any radio repair info. Tom Meant to put this in General Forum..Oh well, we all usually read them all. Quote
mcpilot Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 I just had mine done by King. It was expensive. They did a fantastic job of course. You might consider Southeast Aerospace. I have ah a lot of luck working with them in the past 1 Quote
moodychief Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Call NW Arkansas Avionics and ask for AL. They have always had quick turnarounds on everything I've sent them. This last year they replaced the readout on my KX-155. 1 Quote
flyboy0681 Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 A year ago Sarasota Avionics refurbished the display and transmit circuitry for my KX 165 for about $700. A year prior to that I won a bid for a new faceplate on eBay for $150, which I thought was a pretty good bargain since for some reason they sell new for over $700. Quote
N601RX Posted December 22, 2013 Report Posted December 22, 2013 Someone on ebay has been selling new lenses for $90 per pair. Often the display just needs reseating in its socket when digits are missing. 1 Quote
N33GG Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 Bevan-Rabell 316-946-4870 They know what they are doing and are experts with the old King radios. Quote
