NotarPilot Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Does anyone have one of these borescopes? I'm looking for a PIREP on them. I have a cheaper Seeker DCS355 I got as a gift but heard the BK 6000 is pretty nice. Gotta check those valves! Quote
KSMooniac Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 There are a bunch of cheap dental scopes on the market now that work very well. My IA friend got an obsolete one from a local dentist that has an S-Video interface, and he bought a cheap dongle to connect it to a laptop for viewing and image capture. It works great, and you can record pics of your valves as often as you wish and track wear patterns for very little cost. i've got a cheap Whistler-branded borescope with a skinny flexible head and straight ahead camera that is ringed with small LED lights. It works great for looking at the pistons and cylinder walls as well as tight places in the airframe (like for the tail attachment AD a couple years ago). It has a 45 deg mirror attachment for looking sideways, but it doesn't work for valves due to focal length issues. Quote

Make me ill how cheap you can get them now. Quote

There are new chinese USB versions out there for ~$100 that the Beechtalk crowd seems to like. "Real" dental units on the surplus market and ebay seem to be in the same ballpark as well. Quote
NotarPilot Posted November 14, 2013 Author Report Posted November 14, 2013 Thanks to all who responded. I've heard about the cheap stuff from China and intraoral cameras you can find on eBay but I was curious if anyone had any experience using the Snap-On BK 6000. Quote
kmyfm20s Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Mike Busch just indorsed the new Snap-on borescope($995) on his last webinar. I don't recall what model he said it was but mentioned it had great features. I have one of the cheap($79) China dental cams and it works perfectly with fantastic detail. Quote

Does yours have a 90 degree lens, or can you only see "straight ahead". Quote
kmyfm20s Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 It is 90 degrees. When borescoping through the spark plug hole I can angle it to see everything but the center of the piston. That I can see with a flsh light looking through the hole. Here is a post I made with some of the photo from it. In the first picture you can see the camera sitting on the box in the bottom left corner. http://mooneyspace.com/topic/10433-ly-con-cylinders-arrived/?hl=%2Blcd-con+%2Bcylinder Quote

kmyfm20s Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Search Ebay for MD740 dental camera. By design intra oral dental cameras will angled from the handle to lens. Quote
