I've got a strike finder with a bad power supply. The factory minimum for a return and repair is $2,600, no matter the problem. Will my 430 W display lightning data and, if so, can anyone hazard a guess as to the cost of pulling that off? I've got a J model, if that is relevant to the likely labor hours.

Thanks.

Yes it will, and you can get a used system for that $2600 value if you shop around a bit.  installation extra of course, but that is a wiser use of that money IMO.  I'm halfway searching for one myself.  I have no idea of the installation task, but there is equipment required to locate the antenna and a new harness would need to be plumbed from the battery compartment to the panel... I'd guess there is 5-10 hours of work there.

Alternatively you might try to find an alternate shop that can fix the power supply... I doubt it is difficult unless it took down a bunch of other components with that failure.  If you don't have the budget for a WX-500 then you might be able to get the Strikefinder fixed for less if you find a savvy shop.

All of the other stormscopes except the -500 have their own displays and cannot send data to a GNS box or other display.  If you have a -1000, you would need to put the display in your panel.

Oops. I misspoke. It's a WX-1000, not a 500, in case that's relevant.

call Valentine.  He gave me a # to a guy in Minnesota that may be much cheaper.  The Wx-1000 will not display on the 430.  The wx-1000e can display to certain displays, but not the 430.
