  1. Having the traffic display on the units in front of you is great but as you can see in the photos below, there can be a lot of traffic to sort through. I fly the corridor between Philly and the Washington/Baltimore a fair amount. In addition to the usual VFR traffic, you have the commercial traffic heading in and out of the metros. The real power of the 9000 is the ATAS capability. With the unit verbally telling you where the traffic conflict is, there is little doubt where your focus should be. 2. That mount looks different than the one I bought. Did you modify it? I agree the mygoflight stuff is well made and priced accordingly (drives this cheap bast^%d crazy). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  3. I experienced this “frying bacon” issue a couple of times. One time it was the insulating washers on the headphone jacks. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/04-00976.php?gclid=CjwKCAjw47eFBhA9EiwAy8kzNNpUFbp67qOHIm_68iEdqVwygcWvEocl_-xVVRfaPTdHJ-ojX2fHKBoCCg8QAvD_BwE The other time it was after we installed Bruce’s Spatial Designs interior. The rear jacks were rubbing on the foil backing for the insulation. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  4. I absolutely love my NGT 9000+. Mine is not a remote unit but I have it wired into the Aspen 2000 and the GTN 650. On the Aspens, I get all of the weather & traffic products, on the GTN, only the traffic shows up and of course I get everything on the unit itself. Since you won’t be receiving the FIS/TIS stuff, I would look at the active traffic unit. It does a great job of pinging the non-ADS-B traffic. If you have a WX-500 StormScope, the 9000 does a nice job of allowing you to display the output. Traffic (TIS-Bravo) Weather (FIS-Bravo) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  5. Don't forget Peter Garmin...
  6. Peter Garmin always seems to miss out on these threads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  7. Wonder how much those flares cost? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  8. Older couple from New York returning home from Ocean City Maryland. TFR was in place late Saturday and they passed through area okay on Saturday before it went up. On the return trip Sunday, they caught both the outer and inner rings. F16 had to release flares to get their attention. Landed at my airport and stayed the night after the Secret Service got done with them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  9. I have no idea. He was on a transport with a bunch of chihuahuas. Felt bad leaving him in the pens with the others.
  10. Glad I’m not the only one. I have a half dozen Coast headlamps in various locations where I need them. I’ve seen Duracell battery leakage in 4 of them. These batteries were not in the units for a lengthy time either. Two of the lights had new Duracell’s that were 2 months old when they failed. I’ve switched to Energizers alkalines for the AAA size and am using lithium Energizers for AA applications. BTW - I found that white vinegar on Q Tips will dissolve the leakage. 12. A bunch of different things. And what was strange was some already had a panel mounted breaker. The clock, the EGT gauge, overhead light all had their own inline fuse but no breaker. Some like the panel lights, radio lights had an inline fuse and a bigger breaker on the panel (I think this may have been done because there were other things connected to that 10 amp panel breaker - like the annunciation panel). And then there were a bunch of inline fuses that were added for other stuff like the intercom, the FP-5, the GEM. I can't remember the exact number but it was somewhere near a dozen of them.
  13. Cliff - I have a whole box of RAM mounts that are collecting dust. Let me know the dimensions of the tablet you are using and I will see if I have a mount that I can send to you. I'll keep your membership solid in the CB Club.
  14. What I found concerning was the number of factor installed inline fuses under the panel. Kind of inconvenient if one of those popped. During my last avionics upgrade, I had them moved to breakers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. It is interesting they provide an overlay for the ILS approach. I wonder how many pilots will mistaken it for a full ILS approach.
  16. This is good news. Sending the unit in for software fixes and being down for 2 weeks wasn’t cutting it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  17. I got one of those pictures. [emoji1787] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  18. Firmware updates come in two flavors. One version is an update predicated on some operational deficiency with the unit. The other is an operational enhancement. Garmin will pay the shop to do the former and Garmin expects the owner to pick up the latter. Like mentioned above, it is up to the shop whether they will pick this cost up for the enhancement updates. The firmware service notification has a different header denoting the difference between the different types. Can’t remember how it is worded. Something like “TSO” on one and “STC” on the other. 19. I’m really surprised my plane hasn’t sold yet. It must be because of competition like this: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  20. Unfortunately, a lot of people here were too young or just plain forgot the days of rampant polio, whooping cough, mumps & measles. Growing up, I still remember polio aftermath was still playing out. The kid in class in braces and hearing about someone's brother dying in an iron lung. Economic impact. Heck yes. Now measles is another story. It was pretty much headed towards being eliminated had it not been for a failure in the worldwide vaccination plan. In 2019, there were over 200,000 deaths up from 136,000 in 2018. But heck, it ain't affecting me, so who cares? We should all care because that beast ain't dead and we starting to see increases in measles cases in the States. Am I the only one that remembers being sent home from school because Johnny got red dots all over him? I just don't know what is driving people from doing the right thing. Denial? Some stupid conspiracy theory that there are microchips in the vaccine? Don - I hope you are having a great vacation. Let us know if that microchip is making you spend more money than you planned.
  21. I think you are making the correct call Don. As a long time owner of the same plane (30 years), you'll learn when your plane begins "talking" to you and when that "talking" is actually screaming at you. I had a prop governor fail. I saw some fluctuations in RPM during a flight. I thought it was my tach going bad - "talking". In actuality, it was "screaming" at me because on the next take-off, the governor stopped controlling the prop.
  22. I am a ROP guy as well. The only guy One guy on this board is 201er. He who routinely uses LOP to make sure he can fully soil his cargo pants to live up to his "Stinky Pants" moniker.
  23. There are some differences in the models. On my late model F, the overhead light power comes up from the pilot side front pillar (closest to the windshield). There may be a Molex connector under the pilot side panel (black, round connector) that they disconnected while doing the work. Also, there may be an inline fuse. You may need to check the wiring from the light back. Disregard the arrow unless you are looking where your fuel sender is.
  24. I just had the new 510 firmware updated and was surprised that all of the "connect to WiFi while standing on left foot, holding a crow feather in my right hand and humming "We are the Champions"" wasn't needed. The WiFi connection happened quickly and the download was painless.
