  2. I know the owner of the Cessna. He was based at my airport for several years before he moved out to Washington. We are waiting to hear what caused the catastrophic failure. He did a nice job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  3. I have the same aux pump. Mine doesn’t sound cyclic like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  4. There are a ton of companies who cater to the aviation market. One thing you will want is a company that will either take your seats and make the covers or allow you to provide a template to make them fit correctly. My seats were padded with extra memory foam and I had my front headsets made bigger That changed them a bit in shape. So, I found a company that allowed me to provide a template of the fit I wanted. I worked with these guys: https://www.covercraft.com/us/en/aerosheep/mooney-aircraft?aerosheep-subcategory=Mooney%20Aircraft&layout=horizontal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  6. Sorry for the loss Bravo. Hang in there. The sobering thing in my aviation experience is the fact pilots like this lose their life. It sobering because where I am in terms of my aviation experience relative to their’s? I remember when Scott Crossfield died. Here is a guy who accomplished so many things in aviation only to die in a GA accident. If a guy like that can lose his life in a GA accident, how is a Forrest Gump like me going to fair? It is often hard to accept these accidents because we don’t often truly know what went on in the cockpit during the accident. I have a friend who had an accident in a Debonair. He had GoPros running and his recollection of what happened during the accident and what was on the video had some serious contrasts. Any of us who had an unexpected inflight emergency can relate to how different practicing emergency procedures are versus doing them for real. Unfortunately these accidents happen and we are left to ask why. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  7. Having flown from a WNY airport for years, I had my fair share of iced over runways (sun comes out, melts the banks, the runoff covers the runway and then freezes when the sun goes down). I found the best way to stop on ice is aerodynamic braking. Keep the nose up and between the drag and the extra weight on the mains, stopping isn’t usually an issue. What is an issue is taxiing off the runway! And pushing the plane back into the hangar! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  8. If I’m not mistaken, the green one is for an AIM-7 Sparrow and the yellow one is for an AIM-120 AMRAAM [emoji1787] I would follow the wires back (you might surprised to find no wires connected to them) and see where they go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  9. I attempted an inventory at one point. I gave up after finding 32 of them. And that was the issue. Some of those flashlights were in locations that I would only find by accident. I agree with you about the multi function lights. Ironically I bought a set of Duracell flashlights at Costco. Those flashlights always seem to run down faster than other flashlights. Often wondered if that wasn’t by design. [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  10. That’s it. What was different was that on small O2 bottles (unless they are pure medical bottles) they have a male CGA 540 port. My transfill set up has a female CGA 540 that connects to the bottles directly. I had to rig up a conversion adapter to make it work with Dan’s adapter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  11. Check with Danb about his fitting. I filled his O2 tank and I noticed he had an unique adapter that I attached to my CGA 540 fitting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  12. I lived for years in Buffalo. The moisture that comes out of Lake Erie is pretty impressive. It’s responsible for a lot of the lake effect snow we used to get. It also caused some unusual icing patterns in flight. Another interesting thing that would happen on really cold winters would be that the lake would freeze over. That would minimize the lake effect snow but allowed some really cold Artic wind to hit the region. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  13. Interesting topic. Probably like a few of you, I have a flashlight fetish. I’ve noticed over the past several years the rate of corroded alkaline batteries incidents in my flashlights is on a significant rise. Sometimes it would only take a couple of months before I saw corrosion. In fact, I just returned a pack of AA batteries to Costco that corroded INSIDE the sealed package. The batteries were only 3 months old! Have others seen an increase in battery corrosion problems? The main culprits have been Duracell and their Kirkland variant. It’s gotten so bad that I’ve done a few things. I’ve been forced to removed the batteries and store them with the devices. I also switched to lithium batteries for some devices and started buying lithium rechargeable flashlights. Don - thanks for the research results. Will give it a try. 14. I found that the cable assembly on mine were frozen as well. I used Sea Foam’s Deep Creep and one of these to lubricate the cable: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. I have a quadrant system as well. Can’t tell if the fluctuating MP is due to the engine issue or him yanking the quadrant back and forth. In order to get that much fluctuation on a quadrant, you need to move those controls pretty aggressively. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  16. I saw that too but didn’t want to be a Clarence and point that issue up as well. [emoji38] I do wonder if the fuel leak and the high pressure aren’t a cause and effect thing. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  17. I personally haven’t measured it, but when I had my prop balanced once they measured the RPM with some sort of optical gizmo. The R-1 is my second tachometer in the plane. I also have a JPI 900. Between the two of them, I don’t see more than 20 RPM difference. I looked up the spec on it. It’s built with a 1% accuracy on a 10 RPM readout under TSO 49a. I’m wondering if the difference between the actual prop speed and the R-1 has something to do with the mags. You would think there would be a 1:1 correlation between the prop speed and the mag rotation but maybe some of what you are seeing is due to a difference between the two. As I mentioned, I’d give them a call. Their technical staff is great. I had a problem with my MP-1 instrument after some avionics work and they clued me in quickly what to look for and how to correct it (the shop hooked up the manifold line to the wrong port). 18. I replaced my strobes with Whelen’s (WAT) LEDs. Very nice units but pretty expensive. I would wait for Sun N Fun or Oshkosh to get the show discounts. You’ll gain a little useful load since the strobe power packs weigh around a pound each. If you opt for the tail beacon, you will need to run a new power line so that you have both the steady white and white strobe on the tail operate with Nav and strobes respectively (I hadn’t connected mine up yet in this video from 5 years ago). 19. I’m a 32 year owner of an F model which has the same engine as yours. As Rags mentioned, I wouldn’t mess with the mixture in the pattern unless you’re in the higher elevations. What caught my attention was that you said your fuel pressure was 36 PSI.That is way too high. Something isn’t right. My F will have an inflight pressure in the 24” to 25” range. With boost pump on, I see a solid 27”. I think the red line is 30”. As others have mentioned, it might be good to have another set of eyes have a look. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  20. I’ve been flying behind an R-1 for the past 8 years. Mine has been rock solid. There are a couple of insulators on the brown and orange wires. I would make sure these are in place and not loose. The round connector should be checked as well. If you don’t see something obvious, give EI a call. They are very helpful. Good luck! 21. Let's see the pants!
  22. Dan - this is what you should be looking for. This one is on a 79 J. What I found interesting is that when I did the retrofit of the J style yokes on my F, Mooney sent me a totally different arrangement. Not sure if it was specific for retrofits or there was a period of time when they changed the designed.
  23. Dan, Dan, Dan... you need to get out more often! When Mike would come to our fly-ins, I noticed that he was always wearing the same cargo pants. In fact, upon further research it appears that he wore these same cargo pants EVERYWHERE he flew (ex. the Caribbean trip, the Artic Circle trip). Just curious if Mrs. 201er finally got him to wash them. Here is a photo from back in 2016.
  24. This spring discussion hits home. My FAVORITE recliner experienced an in flight failure. Fortunately, my landing gear was down and locked. What I found interesting was that the replacement spring was available for $35 EACH!!!! There was no way I was going to pay that much. But when I searched for cheaper Chinese knock offs, I couldn’t find the exact spring. So, being the Cheap Bast$&d I am, I decided that I could heat up the spring and uncoil it one loop to replace the broken loop. That was an utter failure. It broke again. So I tried again after watching some YouTube videos on the proper way to heat treat metals. Good news! It lasted a day longer than my first attempt. After the failed attempts I was forced to buy a set of the knockoffs and made sure that I reclined responsibly. On a more serious note, I think the suggestion to consolidate requests and approach the vendor may get the traction you need. Often when a product is no longer manufactured, the manufacturer will do a production run to support their OOPs (Out Of Production) obligations (i.e. warranty or extended support life). There is a good chance the original design requirements and testing protocols are available. It may not be a cheap path to go, but at least it is a path. And if anyone knows how I could do an owner produced spring set for my recliner, I’d be indebted to you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  25. The big question is whether or not he is wearing his trademark “Stinky Pants” cargo pants. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
