  1. I am having issues with my CHTs and I believe that my doghouse is the issue... so I am thinking of trying a new approach.
  2. I just heard that there is or was a STC to remove the doghouse from our Mooneys? Who knows anything about this? Any advice more than welcomed! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  3. The keys are nice! I flew from Key West to San Salvador! Beautiful area!!! This is my M20C Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  4. Welcome on board!!! You will enjoy the exchange and your M20C! It looks beautiful! Tell us about your plans please... and whatever advice you need Mooney related and others... don’t hesitate to ask... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  5. I have been using cameras for a while now. GoPro 9 has the best definition in 4k, but the battery life is very short (around 1 hour). Garmin VIRB is a good camera definition 1080. battery life around 2 hours. Both are great and rugged enough to be mounted outside. I started using a DRIFT camera. https://driftinnovation.com/ Much cheaper! No thrills, but 4k definition, 3 hours + battery life and very rugged. I am mounting the cameras either with a sticky pad and with aviation mounts: https://www.mypilotstore.com/mypilotstore/sep/11254 Oscar
  6. I bought one about a year and a half ago. In the beginning it was working great. Then, I started having trouble. I downloaded the database and it was not transferring it to the unit. I called Garmin and, surprise, they said that it was a Jeppesen problem. Jeppesen of course said it was a Garmin issue. So I called Garmin again and it seemed that the Serial Numbers of my 650 and 750 were not correct. It was corrected and it started to work well again. Then out of the blue I had the same problem again! No more updates, called Garmin and they told me to reformat the card. I did it and the card died!!! I could not rescue it. Called Garmin said it was my fault... out of warranty... so please get a "discounted card". Great did it... Now I have a brand new card and... it still does not work! So I reverted to what Don just suggested, take the card out and update it on your computer... Works great... one day they will figure it out how to make it work. In the meantime I will just continue using my Mac to update the card.
  7. Thank you! The ailerons are rigged, but the flaps seem to be on the lower side... and obviously must the creating some drag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  8. I was wondering if this flap gap is normal or if my flaps have to be adjusted? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  9. On the ground was the engine running? The alternator was it charging. I had a similar issue and it was the alternator cable connection to the breaker that was not well connected and was generating noise Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  10. Yes, the indication is that of an extreme strong crosswind that does not make any sense. I was able to recalibrate my unit, but last year it happened again and Aspen suggested I change the AHRS unit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  11. Excellent PIREP. I am still on the fence about the 760 vs Ipad. Garmin pilot's logic is great. You have so many different things you can do, that you can not do on a 760 (for example download my chart updates for my 750...), but then in the cockpit the screen of the 760 is so much better than the ipad. So I am trying to see what fits better my needs.
  12. Mooneys land well on grass. You just have to be careful that the ground is smooth... I do a lot of landings on grass runways. Not a big deal. https://youtu.be/mY6hFoLrEC8
  13. Really nice!!
  14. Thank you!!! really interesting.
  15. Welcome on board!! I really enjoyed your video! I am looking forward to learning more from you and your life in Turkey.
  16. Fausto my 10 year old son, has to write for school about a person who changed to world for good. So he decided to tell his class about Al Mooney!!! I swear I had nothing to do with it! But now I have to help him put something together... and I have no clue where to find anecdotes etc!!! Please ...
  17. I did... but not a huge difference... but then for 2 a month...
  18. I started using it recently. I like it. It is accurate and provides you with a nice graphic interface Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  19. Well, two weeks ago I flew back from San Jose, Costa Rica, MROC, to Ilopango, San Salvador (MSSS). I had stayed for 5 days in San Jose. First the bad: a) Cold Front: due to a very strong cold front I had to extend my stay in San Jose by two days. Winds were for those two days above 25kts, gusting to 40kts...so not being familiar with the area (many hills) I decided that the most prudent thing to do would be to stay on the ground. My cover even got damaged by the winds... b) Fees: Once I was able to leave, I got my bill: sticker shock US$ 540 just for leaving the plane outside, plus US$ 178 overflight permit for Nicaragua and US$ 230 for gas (40 gallons). Now the interesting things: The day I decided to leave winds were still strong, but it was a beautiful day. Take off was interesting... very gusty but nice way of remembering why we train so much. And finally the good: Then the scenery was magnificent. Once I got out of the valley in San Jose and above the hills (11,000 feet) the ride was smooth... I know I posted a video of the flight as well as of the return flight in the video section so here we are:
  20. Thank you! True the flight began in Washington DC... Weather was not so much of an issue. I had a stormscope and I had made it a condition that forecast was VFR most of the way, in particular at arrival. Now, landing in Belize and/or Cozumel... would have meant a three hour delay... (paper work) plus costs. So we decided to push on and land in San Salvador. Two weeks ago I did another flight MSSS to MROC... although shorter, that flight really made some of my hair turn white. Forecast was OK, VFR, and winds manageable. However, I committed several mistakes: a) overly optimistic with winds aloft, b) overly optimistic about forecast (winds) c) overly optimistic about conditions in my alternate So I took off with enough fuel to get to the destination, fly to my alternate and then 45 more minutes. Well, I took off and winds aloft were MUCH stronger than expected!!!! Believe it or not I had 45 kts headwind!!! right on the nose.... and my CHTs were to high so I had to leave the mixture rich... So, I started getting nervous about my fuel!!! and there are not many option between MSSS and MROC, unless you want to land in Nicaragua... Sandinistas don't like it too much if a gringo plane lands without prior notice (48 hrs). Second mistake... I believe in the forecast at my destination... On my way I checked once I crossed into Costa Rica on my winds... and I got really scared... crosswinds at my destination were above limits for my Mooney (forget about my personal ones). Not a problem... let's just check my alternate... to my surprise (to say the least) winds at my alternate were even stronger!!!! So here I am out of options... and just thinking let's trust in my skills.... I have been flying this bird for many years.... and at the end everything went well... look at the video... Oscar
  21. Great video!! Thank you for sharing... It happens to me all the time I forget to engage the APR mode... Oscar
  22. When I fly over water (which I do a lot) I try to take a raft, 406 and life-west. If I can I try to stay close to land, but not always feasible. I also take a satélite phone with me for longer over water trips. However, make sure that you know the PIN number of the phone. Last time I took one, I wanted to call ahead to tell people that I was getting close and I noticed that I did not remember my PIN!!! Also, Mode S helps a lot to be tracked even when there is no AdsB around. Share pictures please Oscar http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N9341V/history/20210205/1756Z/MSSS/MSSS Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  23. I don’t think you will be put in jail... however, if you fly internationally it helps you with the routes and the approaches you may get or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  24. Nice job! I loved the dog... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
