  1. Same here... but that's a conversation for another thread!
  2. +1... Check out Mike Busch's webinar called "All About Cylinders." He's strongly recommends only changing out one cylinder out at a time and then only when it calls for it.
  3. Yep... The same thing happened to me when I wanted my Avionics shop to install a PMA7000B I had. They never could find the time to "squeeze" me in.
  4. Absolutely... I never trust my gauges so I used a calibrated fuel stick and the fuel flow in my gps to document my on broad fuel. Almost always launch with full tanks. Why risk the leading cause of engine failure.
  5. There's a couple in the DFW area but they are all booked up for months. Unless you're doing a complete panel upgrade, it's hard to get in. So I use US Aviation at KDTO. They do good work and are a MSC as well.
  6. My 1965 C model owners manual states to cycle the prop between 1800 and 2000 RPM. Then after seeing a drop of at least 100 RPM, to push it full forward.
  7. Are you seeing this for both wings?
  8. As you stated, it has nothing to do with re-using the plane as a weapon. It's all about the fear that now you can't even trust the folks up front in the cockpit. It goes to the core of what terrorism is all about.
  9. And I always lower mine to the knees which everyone knows as the takeoff position!
  10. Sounds right out of a James Bond movie!
  11. Glenn - This topic has been deferred until the upcoming MAPA Homecoming where we'll put Bill Wheat on the spot to settle it one and for all.
  12. Just pulled my JPI BAT and it's generally right at 14.1V and drops on occasion down to 13.6V.
  13. I use tempest fine wires top and bottom and saw huge difference in the way the engine starts up and seems to run smoother. For leaning, as soon as the engine stabilizes, I pull the mixture out almost to cutoff which happens to be the length of my index finger.
  14. Don, The guy in the hangar next to mine has that exact same thing happen. It turned out to be that his audio unit came unseated. You might want to make sure everything is seated and fastened tightly.
  15. Instrument Overhaul Service of San Diego. http://www.instrumentoverhaul.com
  16. Mike Busch is about to start a live webinar at 8pm CT today on this very subject. Should be a good one!
  17. Hmmm... I drive a VW....
  18. They are pricey but good luck getting a custom prop cable from McFarlane for much less.
  19. No reason to do that. Call SWTA and order it from them and you will get the same exact cable but from Mooney. Save you from having to send the cable to McFarlane.
  20. Not sure what's after market with Mooney these days. I purchased a prop cable from SWTA, it was drop shipped from Mooney and was manufactured by McFarlane.
  21. LASAR estimates 15 hours start to finish.
  22. I dodge buzzards on almost every takeoff. I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
  23. Better check with Don first. He has a pretty strict policy on not installing ANYTHING that wasn't purchased from his shop. In fact you might have to shop around to find someone that will install a used engine monitor. In fact, a lot of shops will not even install new products that wasn't purchased through them. So I'd talk to whoever you plan on using before making the purchase (including buying at SNF).
  24. Great... I'll give that a shot. What test freq do you guys use for this?
