  1. Jl I have the same setup you have on my 231 and agree with everything you said here. The same thing happens in my 231 and the only way to see the speed increase is an increase in the horse-power ( be it a change in the combustion event or something else). If you ever get an answer I would be interested in hearing it.
  2. My vacuum pump failed at 180 hours and four years old this summer. I'm about to put the new Avidyne IFD 540 in my plane and I was thinking about having the avonics show take out my ADF at the same time and putting a Dynon D2 in as a backup. I currently dont have a backup, any thoughts on this.
  3. A friend of mine was selling his three year old Toyota 4 Runner years ago and the purchaser was who and hawing about the timing belt that would soon need replacing. My buddy told the potentcial purchaser, yes that is true and in about a week, your going to have to fill the tank with gas as well and I'm not going to do that either. I'm having trouble with what the expectations are when you purchasing a used airplane. If there is a plane with a $100,000 of recent upgrades and its selling for $100,000, sigh me up.
  4. With good injectors, you can run a 231 or 252 lop, burning less fuel and cooler cht, I do it that way. Sounds like a waste gate issue to me, but it might be the turbo is not working well either, I would check both.
  5. I have a 231, newer engine, but I have not had any issues witht he turbo system. A side not though would tell you the engines TSIO 360 is alot more expensive to get overhauled then a lycoming 360.
  6. I have an 1981 231 and had a similiar issue with 155, I had the voltage regulator replaced with a Zeftronics one and the high pitched noise went away.
  7. Imput the Templest Fine wires in my 231 (Tsio360) a couple of years ago, works well enough and I run my machine LOP. I dont have Gamis, the plane didn't seem to need them.
  8. I have a 231 with Monroy 110 gallon tanks and I have the same problem you do, I never know the absolute quantity of fuel I have on board, so I always error on the safe side and find I have more fuel then I think I do. I use the fuel totalizer method. I the STC paper for my plane there are dip stick measurement for the external tanks to give you an accurate starting point.
  9. Thanks Paul, I really appreciate that, I try to take a plane up whereever I go, some of the highlights have been Chile (flew around a steaming volcano from a distance) and Thailand. Looks like we will take an instructor up just to make it simple.
  10. I going to Sydney, Australia on a vacation and would be interested in renting a plane when I,m there, does anybody know a good GA airport and an FBO that would rent a plane, a Mooney would be great, but a 172, 182 or an Arrow would work as well.

  12. Sorry to here but glad you are Ok, I was going to say my K is for sale, but it couldn't match that beautifully panel you have there. Nice.
  13. Mine went yesterday, 700 miles away from home and at 14000 feet, weather was not so great either, but I dont think I would ever fly in marginal weather again without a back up. Took what I was give, Rapco 215cc as well.
  14. Hi Mark, I may finally be getting my avidyne IFD540 GPS in the next month and was considering updating the transponder and may as well do the audio panel as well. Would your new 450 indigrate well with the special radio functions on the 540.
  15. I had the same issue on my 1981 231. The voltage regulator was replaced and the problem went away, also help with a squeal on on of the radios. Highly recommend the Zeftronic replacement.
  16. Welcome to GA in Canada. I could tell you some stories ($360 for two nights to hangar my plane, should of asked, a $30- walkout fee to fuel the plane, the guy was standing in front of the fuel pump when I came in etc). I think its the reason most Canadian actually go though the US when we do cross counties.
  17. Well I had mine rebuilt in my 1982 M20k 1.5 years ago for $800 in Calgary, Canada (they basically gut the thing and put all new parts in, making it new.) It comes from a KFC 200 system. I did talk to Autopilots Central in Tulsa and they suggested $1000 was likely, great people down there as well, you should give them a call.
  18. I have an EZ-35, great in the summer, not so good in the winter when there is a little snow or ice to deal with. The one wheel also has a hard time on a slipery hanger floor as well. Next go around I will do the ride on mower or something like it.

    DSCN5530 (Large)

Is it an actual Ovation interior? I'd like to do something with mine.
  20. The tv show Mayday, actually did an episode on it.
  21. I believe the problem with the columbia was it melted the ice only to have it reform at the back of the wing over the flaps and alerions making things a real mess. If I remember correctly there where order not to be used.
  22. Mike, I have a 231 as well and would be interested in how you make out on this project. I talked to Plane Plastics a couple of years ago and they seem to indicate they did have the product for my 231. Called back a couple of days later and they said sure we have it. I left it alone anyway, but would love to see some pictures if you could.
  23. One of my tanks had a very small leak a couple of years ago and I experinced the very same thing. The plane just stunk of fuel when sitting or moving slow but in cruise everything was fine. Had Paul reseal both tanks in Wilmar and that went away. Its a leak in one of your tanks more than likely.
  24. I had mine rebiult last year, in Canada, cost was $800 and has worked well ever since, so your in the ball park on pricing with Tulsa.
  25. I replaced the VR in my 1981 231 a couple of years ago with a Zeftronics one, the best $200 I ever spent. The LED used to blink before that and the amps would jump around from 14 to 23, now everthing is nice and steady, showing 14,1 volts as well.
